    Mailed in 1978 or 1979, this card, with serrated edges, has a 21-cent airmail stamp and mostly legible Honolulu postmark. The card’s name is “Sunset in Hawaii” and the caption identifies this as Waikiki Beach. Grade: 1

Unused Hawaii and South Seas Curio Co. card A-11645 dates from a time when Honolulu had a population of “forty thousand souls” of “all races, Caucasian Mongolian, Malays or Negroes.” Indeed.  Grade: 2

    This is a nice, battered, unused old card that really should appeal to anyone trying to accumulate a definitive collection of Honolulu’s pictorial history. Published for The Island Curio Co., with reference number 20562 N, the front is highly “weathered” but OK, and the reverse does have major abrasions on the two upper corners. But what a view of Honolulu! Grade: 4

    Kilauea Iki volcano is in Hawaii National Park and the caption on reverse breathlessly announces that when it came back to life on November 14th, 1959, after 100 years of inactivity, “her fiery lava fountain towered 1900 feet! Five hundred feet higher than the Empire State Building!” Nani Li’i card S-175, unused, and definitely after November 14th, 1959! Grade: 1
