Various scenes: Wat Phra Kaeo, Wat Arun, Wat Benchamabophit, and King Rama IX Royal Park. That’s your Thai-language lesson for today. Mailed in 1998, the card has two large and different stamps but illegible postmark, and some corner creasing. Grade: 3

Bangkok, Wat Ratchanatda
Two of these are available. One (Grade: 3, $5) has minor edge abrasion, mailed in 2001. It has three stamps on reverse but one has a bit of corner missing. Another (Grade: 5, $3) was mailed in 2000 and has five nice stamps but also a jumbo black bar code on bottom reverse and a postal tape on bottom front. By the way, the amulet market area on the temple grounds is unusually interesting.

Card of muay thai, this popular but rough Thai diversion, was mailed in 1996. Two different, large stamps and full postmark. Has a department store price sticker on reverse. Grade: 2

Two cards are available. Each was mailed in 1995. One has three enormous different stamps and full postmarks on reverse, basically using up half the space on the card (Grade: 1, $9.50). The other has seven stamps (five of one type, two of another) and heavy postmarks; also lower left front diagonal corner crease (Grade: 2, $9).

North Thailand, elephants
Two of these cards are available. One was mailed in 1995 and one in 1996. They are special because in each case the cards have two large se-tenant elephant stamps. Details: one card from 1995 has those two plus one other large stamp, legible postmarks, and no damage (Grade: 1, $11). The other, from 1996, has five stamps, heavy postmarking, and basically similar condition (Grade: 1, $11).

Phi Phi Island
Issued by Thai Airways in 1980s or 90s. Seven are available. Five are unmailed and as-new (Grade: 1, $3.00). Two were mailed: one from Thailand in 1996, with three nice stamps and a slight crease on upper left front corner (Grade: 2, $6.50); one from Malaysia in 1999, with two Malaysian commemoratives and full postmark (Grade: 3, $6).

Apart from being an attractive card in its own right, it has five stamps (three different commemoratives) and full postmarks from being mailed in 2000. There is a postal barcode imprint on bottom reverse, and a little ink smudging on the front. Grade: 3

Bangkok, Patpong
Who knows, there may have been a time not so long ago when Patpong accounted for the majority of overseas visits to Bangkok. But why is this card a bit more expensive? It’s because of the stamp on the back, a 1-1/4″ by 4-3/4″ massive view of one of the royal barges during the Golden Jubilee in 1996. Card was mailed in 1997 and the stamp has one legible postmark. Despite a little bit of abrasion on the reverse, this card is well worth the price. Grade: 2

Card from 1995 of a Thai icon, also spelled tuk-tuk. Not so many of them now–people began to realize how uncomfortable they are! But this card is special for the stamps: two normal, but two large se-tenant stamps of elephants crossing a river. One fully legible postmark. There’s also the retailer’s original price sticker on reverse, and additional postal ink. Grade: 3
