  • Hearty Congratulations

Not specifically a birthday card, we put it here anyway–because it could be.  Not postally used, either, though with a name pencilled on the reverse.  Like most such cards of this vintage, it’s embossed.  Grade: 3

    Birthday Greetings
  • Best birthday wishes

The core part of the front of this card, which had been mailed in 1912, is beautiful and undamaged. The glossy roses look very real. A corner of the upper right front margin is missing; for framing, this could be trimmed. The back of the card is a mess so just go with the front.  Grade: 5

    Code: 40000012

    Price: $0.50

    Best birthday wishes
  • Many happy returns

Card mailed in the US as a birthday card in 1911, with stamp and fully legible postmark. If the lower right front corner weren’t missing, this card would have much more value but if you were to frame it, the problem would disappear. Great for bird lovers, and a cute message on reverse!  Grade: 4

    Code: 40000013

    Price: $1.00

    Many happy returns
  • Birthday greetings

From early 1900s, written for mailing but most likely hand-delivered. The rose on the front is made of cloth, and were it not for an abrasion on the left front margin, this card would be most beautiful. It still is beautiful, if it is framed properly.  Grade: 4

    Code: 40000014

    Price: $2.00

    Birthday greetings

  • Hartelijk Gefeliciteerd

The writer of this card tells us it’s a birthday card, while the caption on the front, translated from Dutch, means “Congratulations,” but either way, we’re not convinced the photo matches the sentiment.  What were they thinking?  This looks like an older card, mailed in 2012 from Holland with stamp but no readable postmark.  Serrated edges.  Grade: 2

    Code: 40000017

    Price: $1.00

    Hartelijk Gefeliciteerd

    Price: $1.00

    With Birthday Wishes (USA)
  • Glad Greetings

Try to read that text:  damned by faint praise, and not the kind of prose we personally would want to receive.  This card was not postally used, but in 1926 a long message was written to cover the entire reverse.  That message also tells a lot about the era, and all in all this is quite a snapshot of a postcard.  Grade is almost irrelevant, but since we must do it:  Grade: 4

    Code: 40000020

    Price: $3.00

    Glad Greetings

  • Happy Birthday (set of 32) (PR China)

This set of 32 unused cards in a cardboard packet came from China, and several of the cards are bilingual.  Our scan shows you the back of the pack, which in turn has 31 thumbnail photos of the contents; and below that, card #32 which is in the set but not in the back graphic.  Because this is heavier (and cheaper) than normal, we will need to adjust postage slightly upward.  Ask us how much, and we’ll let you know first.  Grade: 1

    Code: 40000037

    Price: $6.00
