San Juan, Casa de Espana

Casa de España (“one of the most artistic buildings in Puerto Rico”) is the headquarters of a private social organization whose members are those of Spanish descent, on Avenida de La Constitución in Old San Juan. The building was designed in a Moorish Revival style by architect Pedro Adolfo de Castro and dates from 1934 so this unused postcard came soon after that. Although it is named “Casa”, it has never been a dwelling for a family; rather it is a “house” whose members claim common ancestry. Grade: 1
