Lourenço Marques, Gente dos Libombos
If the (fully legible) postmark that substitutes for a stamp gives the date as 19-10-12-11-M, what year would that be? This card was mailed to France, apparently postage paid at the post office, with no message other than a merchant’s rubber stamp. By the way, the city name is now Maputo. Grade: 3
-
Maputo, City Hall
The pre-printed stamp is dated 1982 on this Government-issued card, and we have two of them. For the first, the Maputo postmark on this mailed card shows 1983; as we used to say, “good of kind” (Grade: 2, $6). For the other card, never mailed, and with some written lines and heavy smudges on the reverse (Grade: 4, $2).

Maputo, Av. 25 de Setembro and Hotel Turismo
This is an old card, again from Minerva. It’s very heavily aged and has some writing in the address area. Just for fun, we looked up the hotel, and are confused about whether it became the Ibis and reverted to Turismo, or what. Either way, online reviews make it clear we should consider other options. Grade: 4

Player of M’palasse
We don’t doubt that there’s a Mozambican musical instrument called M’Palasse, but when we went to Google it, all we found were references to brain tumours and a couple of other places selling this same postcard. Not sure what that’s all about. The card was issued by Correios de Mocambique, is captioned in Portuguese and English, and has pre-printed 16MT postage, with another pre-printed 1987 message for Seasons Greetings and Happy New Year. Some numbers are written into the address area. Grade: 3
