-
Sydney, Opera House
A couple of distinctive features to this card, mailed in 1984: it was written on a Malaysian Airline System flight and thereafter mailed by MAS using a postage meter from Kuala Lumpur; and (of course) that the card was issued by the airline itself. We wonder whether any airline still lets this happen? Probably in First Class … Grade: 1
-

Greetings from the Gold Coast
Once upon a time, the Gold Coast was not as … what? … “popular” as it is now. Even back in 1976, when this card was mailed (with stamp, airmail sticker, and some of the postmark), it focuses on Surfers Paradise and looks busy. Those birds are lorikeets. Grade: 1
-
Cairns Scenery, multiple views
The four corner views, including Kuranda train at Stoney Creek Falls, are identified, but maybe we need a refresher course in fauna because we’re not certain if the being in the circle is a fish or a bird. Or what. Mailed in 1985 with stamp and postmark. Grade: 1
-

Bribie Island, Queensland – multiple views
Bribie Island is the smallest of three major sand islands forming the coastline sheltering the northern part of Moreton Bay. It’s 34km long, and 8km at its widest. One view held that the name came from a corruption of a mainland word for it, Boorabee, meaning koala; however, the correct Joondaburri name for the island is Yarun. Bribie Island tapers to a long spit at its most northern point near Caloundra, and is separated from the mainland by Pumicestone Passage. Most of the island is uninhabited national park (55.8 sq. km) and forestry plantations but the southern end of the island has been intensively urbanised as part of the City of Moreton Bay. A bridge from Sandstone Point on the mainland to Bellara and Bongaree was completed in 1963. And this card? Mailed in 1976, the card’s views are all identified. Stamp, air mail sticker, and the postmark are there. Card has serrated edges. Grade: 1
-
Melbourne, multiple views
The views are identified in the reverse caption (Yarra River, Flinders Street Railway Station, Cook’s Cottage, Fitzroy Gardens) but what makes the card a little bit special is that when it was mailed in 1999 (stamp’s still there), the postmark was applied backwards. Rare, but it happens. Grade: 1
-
Little Lindeman and Pentecost Islands; Mt. Oldfield
Lindeman Island is an island in the Lindeman Group of the Whitsunday Islands off the coast of Queensland, named by Captain Bedwell after his sub-lieutenant, George Sidney Lindeman, whilst aboard the Royal Navy vessel HMS Virago. And this card is a fine example of a special type of postcard that is intended to be folded in half like a greeting card. Mailed most likely in the 1970s, it measures 4″ x 8-1/8″ when fully extended; stamp and postmark are there. Grade: 1
-
Queensland, Green Island – multiple views
A coral island on the Great Barrier Reef, 26km from Cairns. Card was mailed in 1976, with the large airmail sticker somewhat overlapping the stamp. Postmark is there. Grade: 1
-
Queensland, Daydream Island
What a mess of contradicting accounts of this tiny island on the Great Barrier Reef, its (apparently) single resort that fills the island, and comments from people who stayed there. Daydream island was significantly damaged by Cyclone Debbie in 2017, with the main jetty being washed away, Lovers Cove deck destroyed, and so on. Evacuation was completed with the assistance of Cruise Whitsundays and the Royal Australian Navy. The schedule for previously-planned renovations was accelerated as a result, with most repairs being completed as of 2019. It’s back in full operation, and Tripadvisor has used A.I. to generate a summary of all the reviews. Hilarious, unless you own Daydream Island. This postcard, though, was mailed using a postage meter in 1976 and predates all of that. Grade: 1
-
Airlie Beach, Whitsunday Coast
Would have been mailed in 1976, with a large Air Mail sticker slightly overlapping the stamp. A small part of a postmark. Serrated edges. Grade: 2
