Dali, Yunnan Province, Three Pagodas
Modern, high-quality unused card. Grade: 1
-
Shangri-La, Meili and Dagon (Set of 2)
From China Post, issued in 2016, these two unused 5-7/8″ square cards with pre-printed 80 fen postage. The set is held together by a small opaque sleeve (appears in the lower scan) and shows Goddess Peak of the Meili Snow Mountains, and Dagon (Shuanglong) Bridge. Grade: 1
-
Balagezong (wood)
An unused novelty card made of wood, on the front (in Roman letters) Li Tian Tang Zui Jin De Di Fang, and, in Chinese, basically saying: Balagezong, the closest place to heaven. Cord is attached in one corner, and an 80 fen uncancelled stamp is on the back. From China Post, a nice souvenir. Grade: 1
-
Dali (Set of 10)
Dali sets tend to be similar, often including the few standard tourist sites mixed with dreamy natural or balcony scenes. This is a set of 10 unused cards, of which our scan shows the paper cover and two examples. No English but clear Chinese captioning. Xizhou rice paddy, the Three Pagodas, Yamada, Longkan Pier at sunrise, and Cang’Er Avenue are included, among others. Each card has a little map in the message area. Grade: 1
-
Lijiang (Set of 30+)
This is an unopened set, still in the original Cello-wrap. We assume the photos on the cardboard cover (our scan) represent the main idea of the cards. The set includes 30 cards, 30 attached and smaller “share cards”, and probably 460 very tiny stickers like those in similar sets we’ve seen. Grade: 1
-
Yunnan (Set of 30+)
Our scan shows you the front cardboard cover of this unopened set (in original Cello-wrap), and like other similar sets it has 30 postcards, 30 attached “share card” stubs and 460 tiny stickers. We assume but have not verified that the photos on the cover represent some of the cards in the pack. Yunnan is a most colourful province. Grade: 1
-
The most beautiful ancient town in Cangshan Erhai (Set of 16)
Despite everything on the cardboard cover (shown), it’s actually a set of 16 cards, unused, 4-3/4″ x 7-1/2″, extensively if floridly captioned in Chinese only. The scenes involve Erhai Lake, which dominates Dali — not so much anything about the ancient town. Grade: 1
-
Li Jiang, Baisha Ancient Town
Everything this unused card wants to say about itself is on the front, in Chinese. The writing identifies the scene as Baisha Ancient Town, and describes a family there. The card itself is in a style similar to others in our “Novelty” Theme category: what looks like a see-through photo transparency embedded in the card. Grade: 1
-
Li Jiang, Water Wheel
The main (Chinese) caption at the top of this unused novelty card says “Big Water Wheel” and, yes, that wheel is in the composite transparency. This card is similar in style to others with photo transparencies that look a bit like what we used to call “negatives”, but not quite. Grade: 1
-
Li Jiang “Photography Postcard” (Set of 10)
This set of 10 unused cards comes in a heavy paper cover, whose front panel we show in the scan. The ten cards fairly represent every major tourist or scenic attraction in the Lijiang area, and each card is extensively captioned in Chinese. Grade: 1
-
The Old Town of Shuanglang (Set of 14)
There’s a cut-out window in the cover of this set of 14 unused cards, most of which show dreamy lake scenes, so don’t count on much of the “Old Town”. Captions in Chinese and English don’t relate so much to the specific scene as they do to charm (as the cover says) and wishful thinking. Grade: 1
-
Recalling Memories — Li Jiang (Set of 16)
This is an unused set of big (4-3/4″ x 7-1/2″) cards showing everything of interest in or near Li Jiang. Our scan shows the back cover of the heavy paper cover, and therefore the cards, but the difference is that the cards themselves have printed captions on the fronts that identify the scenes in Chinese and also have dreamy, poetic comments in Chinese and English. It is a high-quality set, very Chinese in style. Grade: 1
-
Recalling Memories – Tiger Leaping Gorge (Set of 16)
We’re not going into detail about Tiger Leaping Gorge, but it is a bucket-list item for every visitor to Yunnan. If you like rushing rivers, you’ll love this. The scan shows you the front cover and one of 16 unused 4-3/4″ x 7-1/2″ cards in the set. Each card has Chinese text on the front, that may or may not somehow connect to the scene but does not specifically say much about it. We went. It’s impressive in its way. Grade: 1
-
Shangri-La (Set of 20)
This a very heavy, very high quality set of 20 large (4″ x 8-1/4″) unused cards inside the cardboard cover shown in our scan. Honestly, they are spectacular. Issued by China Post in 2016, each card has pre-printed, coloured 80 fen postage and extensive captions on front and back. The scenes are identified, and include essentially everything of touristic interest in the Shangri-La district. You will find Dukezong, wolfsbane flowers, Haba Snow Mountain, Tiger Leaping Gorge, Songzanlin Temple, and many more. The ultimate Shangri-La souvenir. Grade: 1
-
Recalling Memories – Tiger Leaping Gorge (set of 16)
In all material respects, similar or the same as our description of item #203071038, also of Tiger Leaping Gorge. Unused cards. Grade: 1
-
Shangri-La, Gao Lu Village (Set of 10)
A nice set of 10 unused, smaller cards issued by China Post in 2009, with pre-printed, coloured 80 fen postage. Our scan shows the outer front cardboard cover. No particular captions other than Gao Lu. Grade: 1
-
Impression of Shangri-La (Set of 16)
These are quite “busy” unused cards, front and back. You can see most of one of the 16 through the cut-out window in the cardboard cover shown in our scan. They have heavily serrated edges, and each card has extensive text. On the front, it identifies the scene — all around the Shangri-La area. On the back, it’s a kind of dreamy, romantic ode. We’ve not tried the QR codes on the reverse! Grade: 1
-
Hu Tiao Xia (Tiger Leaping Gorge) (Set of 10)
Ten unused glossy cards from China Post in 2010, inside the cover our scan shows. There are no more specific captions than that, but each card has pre-printed 80 fen postage, and the attraction itself is quite specific in its own way. Grade: 1
-
Beautiful Shangri-La in Yunnan (Set of 10)
The paper cover for this set has a cut-out front window, and you can see one of the cards through that. They are somewhat generic, lacking captions, but readily identifiable to anyone who has travelled around Shangri-La. The set was issued by China Post in 2009, is unused, and each card has pre-printed 80 fen coloured postage. Grade: 1
-
Dali “Photography Postcard” (Set of 10)
Showing you the back cover of this set is our way of letting you see thumbnails of the unused cards inside. They are fully captioned in Chinese only, briefly on the fronts and extensively on the reverses. This set is slightly different from many similar sets as it has more of an urban feel to it. Grade: 1
-
Bai Shui Tai (Set of 10)
Baishuitai, also known as the White Water Terraces, is a series of white, terraced formations created by mineral-rich spring water. The site is situated in Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Baidi Village, Sanba Township, Shangri-La City, at the foot of Haba Snow Mountain, and while this unused 2009 set of ten cards from China Post is extensively captioned in Chinese on the reverses, all the captions are the same. Pre-printed, coloured 80 fen postage on each card. Grade: 1
-
Dali Hand-painted postcards (Set of 10)
In our opinion, these artwork renditions are very well done. Our scan shows thumbnails on the back cover of the set. The cards have brief (Chinese) captions on the fronts, and more extensive text (also in Chinese) on the reverse. They represent the standard tourist destinations, including Three Pagodas, in or near Dali city. Grade: 1
-
Lijiang Postcard Love Scenery (Set of 10?)
We don’t know how many cards are in this new, unused set, unopened in its original Cello-wrap. Based on other sets of similar size, it looks like there would be 10 cards. Our scan shows you the front cardboard cover with its cut-out views. Completely authentic but we just can’t guarantee, as Chinese text doesn’t tell us. Grade: 1
-
Dali Ancient City (Set of 20?)
Our scan shows the back cover of this unopened (unused) set. Based on the thumbnail photos, we assume — but cannot guarantee — there are 20 cards inside, and that these small pictures represent the cards. Maybe the QR code will tell you more, we haven’t tried. Grade: 1
-
Changshan Erhai Lake (Set of 20)
An unopened set, still in the original Cello-wrap. Erhai Lake dominates Dali, so we’ll assume it dominates the postcards too. The outer cover confirms 20 cards inside. Grade: 1
-
Li Jiang – The South of Colorful Clouds (Set of 10?)
Once again, an unopened set still in the original Cello-wrap. The cardboard cover’s front panel has the cut-out area showing one card inside. We are assuming ten cards based on how other sets look, but we can’t guarantee. Grade: 1
-
Da Li Yun Nan
As if someone sat down and said “Let’s throw together a postcard!” Unused and in original wrap. Grade: 1
-
Dali Ancient Town
Similar in concept to our entry 203071033 (PR China), an unused card with what looks like an embedded film strip. Grade: 1
-
Dali Ancient Town – transparency
Similar style to several preceding Yunnan/Novelty cards, unused and with embedded film strip. Grade: 1
-
Lijiang Tourist Street – transparency
See several similar cards (but different scenes) in the Yunnan and Novelty categories. Unused. Grade: 1
-
Lijiang Village – transparency
See several similar cards (but different scenes) in the Yunnan and Novelty categories. Unused. Grade: 1
-
Dali, Corner House/Tower/Building
This residence of Yang Ruxuan anchors Dali’s Xizhou Ancient Town. We were right there and assumed it was a museum now, but neither the guide nor Google made it clear what its real function is today. It looks old but is said to have been built in 1945, and fits our own impression that none of Yunnan’s “ancient cities” looked really ancient any more. The unused postcard measures 6″ x 6-1/2″, has a lot of Chinese text on front and back; and although it calls itself “Chongshengsi Postcard”, it can only refer to an area and not the temple. Grade: 1
-
Beautiful Scenery in Dali (Set of 30)
This jumbo pack measures 6-1/8″ x 6-5/8″ and is unopened, in its original Cello-wrap. Our scan shows the reverse cardboard cover, whose thumbnail photos we assume represent the cards inside. It’s a mix of urban and rural scenes, giving you a chance to tour the entire area without actually going there. Grade: 1
-
Dali, Xiaoputuo
Xiao Putuo Island in Erhai Lake is often referred to as a “miniature island.” Despite its small size, it is quite famous and often appears in brochures introducing Dali. The unused postcard measures 4-1/8″ x 7-1/2″ and has ample Chinese text on both sides. Grade: 1
-
Kunming
Full credit to the designers of this unused postcard for finding a way to represent almost anything of interest anywhere near Kunming into the characters themselves. It may not be easy to read even if you have the card in your hand, but the exceptional detail merits this special comment. Grade: 1
-
Pu Da Cuo National Park (Set of 6)
This is an unusual presentation, possibly not complete. We will describe what we have. Undo the clasp (like what holds the flap of a manila envelope in place) and the whole thing opens to front and back cover and six linked postcards, all in one piece. Each postcard has coloured, pre-printed 80 fen postage because this was issued by China Post. As well, each card has two slits along the right edge. Those slits are there to hold smaller cardboard strips with photos and more scenic information. It’s all in Chinese. But those strips are only there for three of the six cards, and we don’t know if the other three should have been there or not. We got this from China Post — they should not have sold an incomplete set, but who knows. Consequently, Grade: 4
-
Mei Li Ba La Ge Zong – Heavenly Road
Issued by China Post, and with pre-printed coloured 80 fen postage, this unused card is from a series showing attractions in the immediate Balagezong area. This one is captioned “Heavenly Road” on the front. Grade: 1
-
Mei Li Ba La Ge Zong – Jidang Ranch
Issued by China Post, and with pre-printed coloured 80 fen postage, this unused card is from a series showing attractions in the immediate Balagezong area. This one is captioned “Jidang Ranch” on the front, in Chinese. Grade: 1
-
Mei Li Ba La Ge Zong – Dolmalacan
Issued by China Post, and with pre-printed coloured 80 fen postage, this unused card is from a series showing attractions in the immediate Balagezong area. This one is captioned “Dolmalacan” on the front, in Chinese. Zhuo Malakang (Dolmalacan) is a Guanyin Temple built by the Tusi Sindogi after the Dayong Mansion more than 1300 years ago, then rebuilt on the original 21 Duomu Scripture Hall due to its age. The temple displays a total of 21 Tzu-mu, a goddess of the clan who saves suffering beings, as well as a group of women worshipped by various sects of Tibetan Buddhism. Grade: 1
-
Mei Li Ba La Ge Zong – Tibetan Ecological Hotel
Issued by China Post, and with pre-printed coloured 80 fen postage, this unused card is from a series showing attractions in the immediate Balagezong area. This one is captioned “Tibetan Ecological Hotel” in Chinese on the front, and while it may be both Tibetan and ecological, we stayed there and found it to be something of a challenge to enjoy. Grade: 1
