Kuching, Blue Lake
This lake, actually closer to the town of Bau, has quite a story, involving arsenic, draining, all sorts of things. We are not certain we would ever swim in it. Card was mailed in 1982, has two stamps and complete Kuching postmark. Grade: 1
-
Tawau, Town Board Building
Stamp from Sabah, and the postmark is fully legible, so this card is Borneo all the way. Grade: 1
-
Kuching, Sarawak Museum
This is a perfect card for someone wanting the total Borneo package–excellent condition, Sarawak stamp, and full postmark. S.W. Singapore card KC441. Grade: 1
-

S.W. Singapore card KC925, mailed from Sarawak with Sarawak stamps and mostly legible postmark in 1991. Grade: 1
-
Sabah, happy Murut family
Mailed, with Sabah stamp, but indistinct postmark. We must note that the caption on reverse is the one that calls this group “A happy Murut family.” We would not know they were happy just by looking at them! Grade: 1
-
Belaga, Orang Ulu on the phone
In Sarawak, where Belaga is, maybe “Orang Ulu” isn’t quite as heavy-handed a description of country folk as it is in West Malaysia. So onto the postcard it went. Grade: 1
-
Lost Idols of Sarawak
Here’s an international card for you: produced by Sarawak Tourism Board (Malaysian Borneo), then mailed to Hong Kong from The Netherlands with two different stamps and Priority label affixed. Just what a postcard should be. Only because it does not come from country of origin, Grade: 3.
-
Exotic Floras of Borneo
Unused 5″ x 7″ card SHC/PC/148 from Sabah Handicraft Centre. Grade: 1
-
Lahad Datu, Houses on slits (sic)
We think they meant “stilts”, but who knows … this S.W. Singapore card DT6046 was most likely mailed in an envelope as it is fully written on the reverse but there’s no stamp. Grade: 4
-
Kota Kinabalu, Pensiangan Muruts playing music
S.W. Singapore card KK6152, written for mailing but with no stamp or postmark. Grade: 4

-
Lahat Datu, modern buildings
This S.W. Singapore card DT 6678 was written for mailing but not stamped or otherwise postmarked. We want to wonder why they chose a photo where all the shops seem to be closed. Grade: 4

-
Sabah, Mt. Kinabalu, Low’s Peak summit
Though these cards of Mt. Kinabalu’s various peaks all start to look the same, they’re not. This is S.W. Singapore card KK6846, and three are available. All were mailed, each with stamp. Two have readable postmarks (Grades: 2, $3.50) and one has an illegible postmark together with orange bar coding (Grade: 3, $3).
-
Mt. Kinabalu, Sayat Sayat

-
Mt. Kinabalu
The views look the same and the caption writers struggle to describe them differently. This S.W. Singapore card KK6852 just says “Mt. Kinabalu, over 12,000 ft.” Well, that’s true. Mailed in 1991, with Sabah stamp and partial postmark, as well as orange postal bar coding. Grade: 2
-
Mt. Kinabalu, Low’s Peak summit (Sabah, Malaysian Borneo)
In this bleak view of the Low’s Peak summit (13,455′), two S.W. Singapore cards KK6853 are available. Sandakan, city area
S.W. Singapore card SD 7316 was written for mailing but not stamped, so it probably went in an envelope. Grade: 4

Miri, Niah Cave
Excellent Borneo postcard with all the right elements in place. It’s S.W. Singapore card MR7482, barely aged, very minor latent creasing, Sarawak stamp and full Kuching postmark from 1991. Hard to get everything right like this. Grade: 1
-
Sarawak, beautiful Dayak girls (sic)

This is S.W. Singapore card KK7675, like a mirror image of their card KK7668, but this time it’s only called a mosque, not the “national mosque.” Whatever. Two of these are available. Sarawak 2nd Division, dancing
The Borneo of our childhood was exotic, remote, unreachable, inconceivable. Now what? Hydroelectric dams, logging, Hyatts? S.W. Singapore card SR 7907, with Sarawak stamp, full Kuching 1991 postmark. More the old Borneo than the new. Grade: 1
-
