Public Gardens
Rare M. Sternberg (Hongkong) B&W card, unused, unmarked, and slight aging evident on the front. With Macau’s radical transformation now, cards like this will be impossible to find. Grade: 1
-
Harbour
Turco-Egyptian card showing the Macanese harbour in a form unrecognisable today. Card has minor edge and corner abrasion on front; reverse is normally aged and otherwise unmarked. Grade: 1
-
Praya Grande
Unused early 1900s card published by Turco-Egyptian, quite clean on front and back. As Macau grows, cards like this will be hard to find. Absolutely brilliant for framing. Expensive? One turn of the wheel at the Lisboa. Grade: 1
-
St. Pauls Church
Early (no crowds!) real photo card of the St. Paul ruins. Though gently fading, no marks or tears on this never-mailed card. Grade: 2
-
Post Office
As Macau morphs into something new and beyond most imaginations, this building near the Leal Senado should remain. Two unused Hor Toi Bookshop cards from 1970s are available. One is aging on reverse but with dignity (Grade: 2, $16). The other really looks as-new (Grade: 1, $19).
-
Macau-Taipa Bridge
Three of these cards from the 1970s are available. Two are unused, aging slightly and with minor edge abrasions (Grades: 2, $22). The other was mailed in 1979 with three different stamps and two almost-readable postmarks (Grade: 2, $32).
-
Kun Yum Temple
Front of this unused card from 1970s is in great condition. Reverse is aging gently. Grade: 2
-
Inner harbour and floating Macao Palace casino
Macau’s transformation now is astonishing and this card will be one of the permanent records. Four of these are available–identical condition, unused, from 1970s. They show mild aging but are in generally fine shape. Grades: 1
-
Kun Iam Tong Temple
Two of these 1970s cards are available, hopefully one scene in Macao that will remain as it has been. One card is unused (Grade: 1, $12), while the other was mailed in 1983, with two stamps and full if somewhat messy postmark (Grade: 1, $24)
-
Fortress of Monte
This historical location is likely to survive the reconstruction all around it. The view is changing, though. Unused card from 1970s, gently aging. Grade: 1
-
Leal Senado, fountain
One of Macau’s two most iconic locations. It still looks like this, but at the same time it doesn’t, and we guess you need to visit there to see what we mean. Three cards from the 1970s are available. Two are unused (Grades: 1, $19) and one was mailed in 1983, with three nice stamps and a readable postmark (Grade: 1, $43)
-
Makok, Goddess of Ama
Two of these unused 1970s cards are available, aging, still in good condition. The caption reports “‘Makok’ the Goddess of Ama from which the name Macao is derived. Temple of fisherfolk.” Grades: 1
-
Governors Mansions
Now this scene has changed in many more ways than one. Three cards are available, from the 1970s. Two are unused, slightly aged (Grades: 1, $21) and one was mailed in 1981 with two stamps, but is heavily creased (Grade: 3, $19).
-
Fat Siu Lau Restaurant
One of Macau’s oldest restaurants, and definitely one of our favourites, Fat Siu Lau may or may not survive Macau’s transition. We hope so, as it’s far from the casinos. Unused card from the 1970s or so, and no western lettering at all. Grade: 1
-
Adam’s Apple Restaurant
One of Macau’s less well-known eateries. Unused card, excellent on the front but foxing significantly on the back. Grade: 3
-
Buddhist nunnery
Unused, as-new card from the 1970s, though any card from Macau now is only as new as the day it was made. Grade: 1
-
Border gate with China
More from this 1970s series distributed by the Hor Tai Bookshop. Two of these cards are available, showing the old border gate separating Macao from the China mainland. This crossing has become a bit more sophisticated now, and a whole lot bigger. One card is unused and in great shape (Grade: 1, $22) while the other was mailed in 1982, with three stamps and illegible postmarks, and a blue airmail sticker affixed (Grade: 1, $34)
-
Hydrofoil wharf
First ferries, then hydrofoils, then jetfoils, then helicopters, and soon, maybe or maybe not–a bridge. Unused card from the 1970s. Grade: 1
-

This panoramic view is no more. Unused card from the 1970s. Grade: 1
-
Penha Church
Unused card from the 1970s. Grade: 1

Unused card from the 1970s. Grade: 1
-

Public Garden
Old Macanese cards are getting very scarce as Old Macao disappears and continues to reinvent itself. This postcard was published by Turco-Egyptian Tobacco Store (Hongkong), is unused and in excellent shape apart from normal aging. Grade: 2
-
Central City and Harbour
Beautiful old unused M. Sternberg card 7109, with minor album indents on corners, and a pencilled date notation (“1915”) on the back. The front is normally aged but completely undamaged. Considering Macau’s aspirations to be the Monte Carlo of Asia, cards like this will be very hard to find. Grade: 3
-
General View of Macao
A very old, postally unused card, unattributed. The sender got as far as writing “Mr. J. B” on the reverse. We wonder if the sender was then kidnapped by pirates? Or smuggled into a gambling den? We’ll never know. The card was in an album and has indentation fading on two corners. Grade: 3
-
Mandarin Oriental Hotel
Unused card from the 1990s. Grade: 2
-
Vasco Da Gama Monument
Mailed in 1974, this card has two different commemorative stamps and full if faint postmark. Grade: 1
-
Macau-Taipa Bridge at night
Before there were multiple bridges, before Taipa and Coloane were merged into one island, and before Macau became what it is now–Nevada on steroids–there was this bridge. It’s the old Lisboa Casino all lit up in the photo. The card was mailed with three stamps and multiple but not really legible postmarks in 1981. Those were the days … Grade: 2
-
St. Paul’s Celebration, 1964
Mailed in 1978 with two different stamps and mostly legible postmark, this card has an airmail rubber stamp mark, but–more prominently–a large and very red “Silver Jubilee Grande Premio de Macau” rubber stamp mark. This honestly is a one-of-a-kind card. Grade: 1
-
Macau Open 2005
Unused advertising card with Zhang Lian Wei and Fred Couples pictured on the front. Grade: 1
-
Ruins of St. Paul’s Cathedral
Unused card from 2007. Grade: 1
-
World Cultural Heritage (folio)
Hard-to-find folio, in original shrink-wrap, of 25 unused cards showing key attractions of this small Special Administrative Region. The historic centre of Macau entered the World Heritage List on 15 July 2005 as the 31st such site in China. The reverse of this folio lists the contents of all 25 cards. Wisely, none of the cards show casinos. Grade: 1
-
City Landmarks of Macau (Set of 10)

Rich in Chinese festivals throughout the year, Macau is a colourful city, as is this set of ten unused cards. Grade: 1
-
The Charm of Macau (set of 12)
This folio of 12 unused cards shows a majority of dusk or night scenes, and some might say this is when Macau with its many casinos and restored city centre looks its best. Grade: 1
-
The Charm of Macau – reverse (set)
To help you identify the cards in the folio, we scanned the reverse of item 20315039.
-
Seng Yu – Proverbios III (Maximum Cards) (set)
Four of these 2009 sets of four cards are available, in original Correios de Macau wrapping. A very appealing textured paper stock. We are guessing these aren’t very common. Grades: 1
