Not only “convenient” as the caption says, but also the only way at that time to go upriver, sitting more or less below water level watching kung-fu videos. Unused card from 1980s, somewhat aged on reverse. Grade: 2

Sarawak, longhouse
Two of these SB0004 Borneo postcards from the 1980s are available, showing typical Iban dwelling. One is unused, with aging reverse (Grade: 2, $7.50). The other was mailed from Kota Kinabalu in 1983, with two stamps and two legible postmarks (Grade: 2, $8.50).

Dayaks dancing in the Long House
Four of these cards are available. They represent nearly the ultimate in semi-contemporary (1970s) Borneo cards. The word “Dayak” is definitely out of style now. Two cards were mailed in 1990, and have Sarawak stamp and full postmark (Grades: 1, $14) but note that though the photos are the same, the captions on reverse are different and so are the publishers. One was mailed in 1984 with three different stamps and illegible postmarks (Grade: 2, $12). The other card was never mailed and is aging but in good condition (Grade: 1, $12).

The good news: one of the few cards from late 80s to show all of Kuala Lumpur. The bad news: these two cards, mailed in early 1990s, have smudging on the front. Otherwise, stamps and postmarks are OK. Grades: 2

Melaka, St. John’s Hill
Two cards are available, variously mailed in 1986 and 1990, though clearly of different print runs since they have different colours! The 1990 card has Melaka stamp and full postmark with some smudge on front (Grade: 2, $4) and the 1986 card is just a little less good all-around (Grade: 3, $3).

Card jointly issued by the Post Office and a local TV station, this roughly means “my progressive nation” and has a pre-printed stamp. This card was mailed in mid-1990s and is in just average condition. Grade: 3

Negaraku harmoni
Card jointly issued by the Post Office and a local TV station, this roughly means “my nation of harmony” and has a pre-printed stamp. Two are available. One was mailed in the mid-1990s and had been significantly folded (Grade: 4, $2) and the other was mailed in 1993 with an extra stamp and airmail sticker, lacking any postmark but with orange barcoding through the two stamps (Grade: 4, $2).

Kota Kinabalu, City Park
Mailed in 1995, this is a S.W. Singapore card KKB8305, with photo probably from 70s or early 80s. Has Wilayah Persekutuan stamp and partly legible postmark, as well as minor edge abrasions. Grade: 3

We think this temple is in Pahang, but aren’t certain because handwriting obliterates the caption. Card was mailed in 1996, has commemorative stamp and intact postmark and is generally average overall. Grade: 3

Larger card mailed in early 2000s with two of the same commemorative stamp of the Malaysian king at the time, but illegible postmark. Small pencilled notation of original price on reverse. Little bit of postmark smudging on front. Grade: 3

Orang asli (“original man”) are native Malaysians. Two of these oversized (4-3/4″ x 6-3/4″) cards are available. Each has two commemorative stamps, and almost legible postmark. One has small price notation on reverse. Each has minor edge and corner creasing. Grades: 3

As the oversized card shows, this is a beautiful old building in the heart of the city. Mailed in early 2000s, it has two commemorative stamps but not a legible postmark. Grade: 2

Kuala Lumpur, Dataran Merdeka
Dataran Merdeka translates as Merdeka (Independence) Square, and used to be called the Padang. This is a place of many stories. Oversized card mailed in 1992 has Perak stamp and fully legible postmark, plus orange postal bar code at bottom reverse. It’s a nice representative card of K.L. Grade: 2

Two cards are available, each issued by Hyatt Hotel Kinabalu. One card is unused, 5″ x 7″, minor edge and corner abrasions and a bit of aging on reverse (Grade: 2, $4.50). The other was mailed in early 1990s, is 4-3/4″ x 6″, has commemorative stamp but no legible postmark, and some edge and corner battering (Grade: 3, $3.50).

Oversized (5″ x 7″) card mailed in 1991 with Melaka stamp and partly legible postmark. This church would never get lost in a snowstorm, that’s for sure. Grade: 2

The card caption is cute, saying “The beautiful island as seen from Tioman Island.” But it doesn’t give the name. Never mind, it’s tropical. Card (5″x7″) mailed in 1991, has Wilayah Persekutan stamp, no legible postmark, and some white correction fluid on reverse. Minor postal creasing. Grade: 3

Welcome to Selangor
Not a very imaginative range of Selangor’s sights but here they are. Card designed for “Visit Malaysia Year 1990,” and we have four of these 5′ x 7″ examples available, all mailed in 1991. One has stamp but lots of smudging on front and back, and a little snip out of lower edge (Grade: 4, $2). Two each have a Johor stamp and complete postmark (Grades: 2, $4). One has a Negeri Sembilan stamp, nearly full postmark, smudging on front, and is a bit messy on the reverse (Grade: 3, $3).
