Malacca, Al-Azin Mosque
This 5″ x 7″ Oriental Pearl card 13086 was mailed in 1991 with one stamp and mostly legible postmark. Grade; 1
-
Tioman Island, quiet and serene beach
It definitely is quiet and serene but also one of the few beaches in Malaysia where swimming is neither unpleasant nor dangerous. Card is 5″ x 7″, mailed in the late 1980s with two stamps but indistinct postmark. Grade: 2
-
Cameron Highlands, vegetable farm
Three of these mailed 5″ x 7″ cards are available. One in 1991, with stamp and partly legible postmark (Grade: 3, $4), and the other two in 1990 with stamp and legible postmarks (Grade: 1, $6).
-
Boh Tea garden
This Oriental Pearl 5″ x 7″ card 13072 was mailed in 1990 with Johor stamp and postmark, and is a little creased by mailing on the top part. Nothing significant. Grade: 2
-
Malacca, St. Paul’s Church
5″ x 7″ Oriental Pearl card 13069 showing St. Paul Church, built in 1521 by the Portuguese during their occupation of Malacca. Mailed some 470 years later, in 1991, with stamp and partly legible postmark. Grade: 2
-
East coast, coconut palms
Oriental Pearl 5″ x 7″ card 13057. Two are available: one mailed probably in the late 1980s with one stamp and partial Kuala Lumpur postmark, postmark smudging on the front, and some creasing (Grade: 3, $2). The other was mailed in 1991 with a commemorative wasp stamp, nearly full Trengganu postmark, and a bit of creasing (Grade: 3, $3).
-
Kota Bharu, market scene
Nice photo of this market on two 5″ x 7″ Oriental Pearl cards 13044, mailed in the early 1990s. One is from Johor with postmark and stamp (Grade: 1, $4). The other is from Kelantan with only partial postmark, corner abrasions, and a tiny wormhole on lower left margin (Grade: 3, $2.50). Note, for no particular reason, all those different types of bananas in the photo. Malaysia has so many. The best are the little ones not much larger than a thumb. So sweet you can hardly accept the “normal” ones after that.
-
Mulu, Clearwater Cave
From the “longest cave system in Southeast Asia,” at Mulu, in Sarawak, north Borneo, an unused card (Grade: 1, $5). Also one more that was mailed in 1987 with two stamps (Grade: 1, $6).
-
Beach scene
An idealistic 4-3/4″ x 6-3/4″ scene, mailed in 1988 with one stamp and mostly legible postmark. Grade: 3
-
Sarawak, native longhouse
This 5″ x 7″ card is not at all the conventional view of a longhouse. (Think about “long”.) Card was mailed sometime in the 1980s and the stamp is there, but only a small bit of postmark. There is however the Malaysian postal system’s orange bar code at bottom reverse. Grade: 3
-
Penang, provision shop
Two of these unused Yacine cards (#1022) are available. Grades: 1
-
Penang, colonial architecture
Away from the doubtful beaches and yummy food, Penang has some remarkable architecture. This 4-3/4″ x 6-3/4″ card shows one example. Mailed in 2002 with stamp and postmark, it can be yours. Grade: 1
-
Malacca, house
A house in the traditional Malacca style. Card mailed in 1990, with Melaka stamp and postmark. Grade: 2
-
Kuantan, Pantai Gebeng
Indeed, a beach, though not necessarily one that would attract many people and based on its location (and the age of the card, 1980s) it may not even be there now. We will not be going back to look. Two unused cards are available. One is Grade: 1 ($4) and the other is Grade: 3 ($2).
-
Penang, Kavadi at Thaipusam
There can be few more colourful or unusual festivals in the world than this one. Really. This is an unused Abdul Majeed card 88.100.123.271 975 from the 1980s. Grade: 2
-
Penang, fishermen
Unused Abdul Majeed card 88.100.183 273 299. Grade: 1

Unused Yacine 4-3/4″ x 6-3/4″ card 3055, showing the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, the House of Parliament, and the National Monument which is in fact related to a similar monument in the United States. Grade: 1
-
Shah Alam, Sultan Sallahuddin Mosque
Unused Yacine card 18188, 4-3/4″ x 6-3/4″. The name of its location is misspelled as “Shas Alam” in the caption on reverse. Grade: 1
-
Malacca, Galleon Flora de la Mar
Two of these unused, larger Yacine cards are available. Odd, the cards are real but the ship itself is only a replica. Grades: 1
-
The Country
Every one of these scenes is identified on the reverse of this Abdul Majeed card 102-237, mailed from Penang in 1991 with a Pulau Pinang stamp very heavily postmarked. Some postmark smudging on the front. Grade: 2
-
30th anniversary coins
Commemorative coins of the 30th anniversary of the Independence of Malaysia. The coins are in the national bank’s Money Museum. Card mailed in 1991 but the postmark missed the stamp totally. Grade: 3
-
Paka, fishing village
Been through there many times in the past, always on the way to somewhere. Maybe we should have stopped. Card was mailed in 1991 with Pulau Pinang stamp and indistinct postmark. Grade: 2
-
Dungun, Trengganu, turtle
Unused card from 1981. (For this card, before we sell it, we need to verify the condition. If you’re interested, please ask first.) Grade: 2
-
Kuala Selangor, lighthouse
Allow some reminiscing. It used to be a terrific Sunday drive through rural areas to reach this lighthouse, see all the monkeys, and eat in the local “gerai makan.” No doubt the lighthouse is still there but we doubt the experience would be the same. This card was mailed in 1991 with a Negeri Sembilan stamp and full postmark, and will be a wonderful addition to anyone’s collection of lighthouse postcards. Grade: 1
-
Greetings from Melaka
The perfect card for anyone specializing in “Greetings.” Mailed in 1996 with Perak stamp and full postmark. Grade: 1
-
Telok Chempedak beach
One of our “value” cards, a beach scene with Kelantan stamp and full, legible postmark. Grade: 1
-
Kuala Lumpur, Lake Garden, National Monument
Mailed in 1991 with Selangor stamp and legible postmark, just a bit of postmark ink on the front, a nice card. Grade: 2
-
Trengganu, beach
The thing about this beach is that, apart from being rife with undertows and other natural dangers, it is also where Vietnamese refugees and their boats used to come ashore. That does not appear in postcards, however. Mailed in 1988 with stamp and full postmark. We must verify availability of this card. Grade: 1
-
Sarawak, Dayak round pole
In fact, these poles were used to mark graves. S.W. Singapore card K5072, mailed in 1982 with Sarawak stamp but no postmark whatsoever. Grade: 3

Melaka, Dutch Square
Night view focusing on Christ Church, this card was mailed in 2010 and has one stamp and part of a Johor postmark. Bottom edge is slightly torn. Grade: 4
-
Feri Malaysia, Cruise Muhibah
Quoting the caption of this card, issued by the company Feri Malaysia Sdn Bhd, “Cruise Muhibah the only passenger ship plying Kuantan, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Singapore … weighing 7,900 tons, 134 meters long, can accommodate 600 passengers.” You could get all that through Google but we saved you the effort. Mailed in the late 1980s, with stamp but only partial postmark. Grade: 2
-
Kuantan, Telok Chempedak Beach
Many cards of this beach because it is (was) essentially the first decent one reachable on a cross-country drive from Kuala Lumpur to the east coast. Mailed in 1990, with stamp there. Grade: 3
-
Kelantan, waterfall
Waterfalls are abundant in Malaysia but are overdeveloped and trashy as soon as they are “discovered.” We absolutely will not tell you where the best ones are. You may wonder where the waterfall is in this card. Good question. Card mailed in 1988, with stamp and full postmark. Grade: 1
-
Penang, beach at Rasa Sayang
After this card entry, we will stop blogging for awhile and just get back to business. But once, at this beach, which is not quite as pristine as the card makes it look, we saw a crow swoop down, pluck a dead fish floating on the surface, and then drop the fish on someone lying on the sand. In this area, one is better off sticking to hotel pools. Mailed in 1988, stamp OK, partial postmark. Grade: 2
