-
Sabah, Mt. Kinabalu, Low’s Peak summit
Though these cards of Mt. Kinabalu’s various peaks all start to look the same, they’re not. This is S.W. Singapore card KK6846, and three are available. All were mailed, each with stamp. Two have readable postmarks (Grades: 2, $3.50) and one has an illegible postmark together with orange bar coding (Grade: 3, $3).
-
Mt. Kinabalu, Sayat Sayat
S.W. Singapore card KK6851 shows this camp at 12,500′, with Donkey’s Ears in the background. Card was mailed in 1991, with stamp and illegible postmark. Grade: 3
-
Mt. Kinabalu
The views look the same and the caption writers struggle to describe them differently. This S.W. Singapore card KK6852 just says “Mt. Kinabalu, over 12,000 ft.” Well, that’s true. Mailed in 1991, with Sabah stamp and partial postmark, as well as orange postal bar coding. Grade: 2
-
Mt. Kinabalu, Low’s Peak summit (Sabah, Malaysian Borneo)
In this bleak view of the Low’s Peak summit (13,455′), two S.W. Singapore cards KK6853 are available. One has two Sabah stamps, mostly legible postmark, and orange postal bar coding (Grade: 1, $4) while the other was stamped and mailed but without any postmark so we must downgrade the card to Grade: 4 ($2).
-
Sandakan, city area
S.W. Singapore card SD 7316 was written for mailing but not stamped, so it probably went in an envelope. Grade: 4
-
Miri, Niah Cave
Excellent Borneo postcard with all the right elements in place. It’s S.W. Singapore card MR7482, barely aged, very minor latent creasing, Sarawak stamp and full Kuching postmark from 1991. Hard to get everything right like this. Grade: 1
-
Sarawak, beautiful Dayak girls (sic)
S.W. Singapore sometimes got mixed up in their captions. This card KC7488 of course only shows one girl, at her Sarawak Long House. Card mailed in 1991 with Sarawak stamp and full Kuching postmark. Nice. Grade: 1

-
Kota Kinabalu, mosque
This is S.W. Singapore card KK7675, like a mirror image of their card KK7668, but this time it’s only called a mosque, not the “national mosque.” Whatever. Two of these are available. One was mailed with a Negeri Sembilan stamp and illegible postmark in 1990 (Grade: 2, $3) and the other has a red Express Mail sticker affixed, three stamps, mostly legible Sabah postmark (Grade: 1, $5).
-
Sabah, national park rest house

Johore Bahru, The new Customs building
Aging S.W. Singapore card JB 7822 with Johor stamp and unreadable postmark. Note once again that we follow spellings as used on the cards and the stamps, which is why you may often see “Johor” and “Bahru” in multiple variants. Grade: 3

Sarawak 2nd Division, dancing
The Borneo of our childhood was exotic, remote, unreachable, inconceivable. Now what? Hydroelectric dams, logging, Hyatts? Well, we won’t go into that in detail here. S.W. Singapore card SR 7907, with Sarawak stamp, full Kuching 1991 postmark, in outstanding condition. More the old Borneo than the new. Grade: 1
