Roadside fruit stalls
Yum! Nothing beats these roadside stalls, and if you’re lucky they have juice-making blenders. This card dates from 1991, mailed with stamp and partial postmark. Grade: 2
-
Taman Negara, National Park
The Tahan River, 130 million years old, and not destroyed by logging yet. Oversized card (4.5×6.5″) mailed in 1995 with some edge and corner creasing and one small corner of stamp is missing. Grade: 3
-
Johor, Desaru Sea Beach
Three cards are available. Yes, it does look a little generic, doesn’t it? The best card was mailed in 1988, has Johor stamp and full postmark, pencilled price notation on reverse, and a very small ink smudge on front, but not disturbing (Grade: 2, $4). The other two are about the same but no front smudge and no full postmark, though one has orange postal bar code on bottom reverse (Grade: 2, $4).
-
Muar, street scene
These smaller-town cards mark a nice change from the usual capital city attractions. This one, mailed in 1991, has Johor stamp and nearly-full postmark. Clean front. Grade: 2
-
Johor, Desaru Holiday Resort
Two are available. One was mailed in 1990, has commemorative stamp and full postmark, and a bit of corner abrasion on lower right front (Grade: 2, $4). The other dates from 1991, has Melaka stamp and nearly full postmark, and clean front (Grade: 2, $4).
-
Terengganu, entrance to Sultan’s palace
Another 1990 card. Stamp and partial postmark. Grade: 2
-
Fishing boat of east coast
Two cards are available, also from 1991. One has commemorative stamp and partial postmark but has a noticeable edge abrasion confined mostly to lower right reverse (Grade: 4, $2). The other card would normally be Grade 2 but instead of postmarking the stamp, someone drew through it with a pen (Grade: 4, $2).
-
Karak, Pahang
This little town has been for years a strategic “pit stop” on the cross-peninsular drive and we’ve been through there many, many times. Four cards are available, all mailed, all showing the barest bit of age but otherwise near-perfect. Grades: 1
-
Kota Bahru, town centre
Two cards of this prominent northeastern town are available. One misses Grade 1 only because the postmark isn’t completely full (Grade: 2, $4.50). The other has a very tiny upper right front corner abrasion, commemorative stamp, and partial postmark (Grade: 2, $4).
-
Kelantan, Masjid Kampong Puteh
Two cards are available. One has clean front, Kelantan stamp and nearly full postmark (Grade: 1, $4), while the other has postmark smudging on front, Pahang stamp, full postmark, and some white correction fluid on reverse (Grade: 4, $2).
-
Kota Bharu, Masjid al-Muhammadi
Two cards are available. Both were mailed in 1991 by the same person at the same time. Commemorative stamps and partial postmarks, but one is perfect on front (Grade: 2, $4) and the other has a bit of smudge (Grade: 2, $3.50).
-
Kuala Lumpur, Istana Satu (first palace)
Two more cards with this little anomaly of having been mailed five years apart. The one mailed in 1986 has the stamp at bottom of reverse, and two full postmarks, as well as very minor smudge on front and equally minor dent (Grade: 3, $4.50). The one from 1991 has stamp and full postmark, but slightly more smudge on front (Grade: 3, $4).
-
Kuala Lumpur, Kompleks Dayabumi, night

Two cards mailed in 1991 and in nearly identical condition: Wilayah Persekutuan stamps but no legible postmark. Grades: 3
-
Kuala Lumpur, Puduraya bus and taxi station
Two of these cards are available, from 1991. Both have a stamp and unreadable postmarks, and a bit of edge abrasion. One (Grade: 2, $4) is not troubled by the white correction fluid that affects the other (Grade: 3, $3).
-
Rantau Abang, leatherback turtle
We had the good fortune to see these nesting, before human forces got in the way. This card was mailed in 1991 but photo is much earlier. Flashbulbs are technically not allowed now. Stamp and postmark intact. Grade: 1

Dungun, leatherback turtle
Unusual daylight view of a nesting turtle. Card mailed in 1991, with Selangor stamp but no legible postmark. Grade: 2
-
Rantau Abang, baby leatherback turtles
Three more or less identical cards mailed in 1991 with commemorative wasp stamp and partial postmark, though photo appears to be from 1976. Allow us this small editorial comment: we have to do what we can to ensure that postcards are not the only way to see these turtles in the future. Grades: 2
-
Kuching, Hilton Hotel
Three of these unmailed, as-new cards are available. Grades: 1
-
Penang, Million Buddhas Precious Pagoda
Mailed in 1991, this card has a Pahang stamp and almost full postmark. Front is near-perfect though back has small staining. Grade: 3
-
Kuala Lumpur, Jame Mosque
Though the two cards available were mailed in 1990, the photo is much older. You would see changes now! One card has Johor stamp with mostly readable postmark (Grade: 2, $6) while the other has a ripped stamp and illegible postmark (Grade: 4, $4).
-
Kuala Lumpur, orchid garden
Three mailed cards are available from the early 1990s: One with Selangor stamp and partly legible postmark (Grade: 2, $4); one where the front of card is OK but the stamp of this mailed card has one corner ripped off, and partial postmark did not reach the stamp in any event (Grade: 4, $2.50); and one with postal creasing, full stamp, and partial postmark (Grade: 2, $3).
-
Penang Bridge span
Picture must have been taken soon after bridge opened–cars could stop on it then. Two cards are available, both mailed in 1990. One, with full stamp/postmark, is Grade 1 ($5.50) and the other just has less of a postmark (Grade: 2, $4.50).
-
Kuala Lumpur, Dayabumi Complex at night
The card’s OK, with stamp and full postmark, but it’s an unflattering photo. And the message was so heavily written it indented the front. And there’s an edge crumple on right front. So maybe the card isn’t in such good condition after all. Grade: 3
-
Batu Caves, 272 steps
Two cards are available, identical photo but clearly different print runs. One was mailed in 1990 and has two stamps, almost legible postmark, notable aging on reverse, and minor corner abrasion (Grade: 3, $4). The other was mailed in 1991, intact stamp, partial postmark, and a message that goes right over the caption (Grade: 4, $2.50).
