Kuala Lumpur, Lake Gardens, National Monument
Americans would be forgiven for doing a double-take here, and can thank Felix de Weldon for that. Two cards are available, both mailed in 1991, with stamp, mostly readable postmark, and barest ink smudge on the fronts. Grades: 2

Kuala Lumpur, Parliament House
Card mailed in 1986 has Perak stamp, heavy but partial postmark, and a fair bit of smudging on the back. Front is OK. Grade: 3

Tin dredge
Another 1991 card, with Johor stamp and one of the largest, fullest, and most readable postmarks of the entire Malaysian series. Card is aging a bit around the edges, but the postmark itself gives it an “edge,” so to speak. Grade: 2

Penang, beach
Two cards are available, both mailed in 1990. One has nice commemorative stamp, full Kelantan postmark, and very minor corner abrasions (Grade: 2, $4). The other has Pulau Pinang stamp and nearly full postmark, as well as some corner creasing (Grade: 3, $3.50). But it’s just a beach.

You could be wondering how many different views there are of this bridge. Answer: lots. This card was mailed in 1986, shortly after bridge opened. It has Pulau Pinang stamp but no legible postmark. Grade: 2

Mt. Kinabalu summit trail
Seven of these oversized (5″ x 7″) cards from Borneo’s highest mountain are available. Five are unused and as-new (Grade: 1, $6). One was mailed in 1993 with two stamps and illegible postmark (Grade: 3, $5), and the other was mailed in 1995, has stamp and partly legible postmark, otherwise undamaged (Grade: 2, $5).

Ipoh, town centre
People who lived there have so many fond memories of Ipoh. Two cards are available. One, mailed in 1990, has a crumpled commemorative and illegible postmark, with some smudging on front (Grade: 3, $5) while the other, mailed in 1991, has normal Perak stamp and full postmark, and also smudges on front (Grade: 3, $5).

Ipoh, Taman D.R. Seenivasagam
Three mailed cards are available. Two have stamp and near-full postmarks and are basically clean on front (Grade: 2, $4). The other is in similar condition on reverse but has very major postmark smudging on front (Grade: 4, $2).

Ipoh, Perak state government building
All right then! If you’re in the mood for postcards of a Malaysian state government building, you’ve come to exactly the right place. Three of these mailed cards are available, each with stamp and at least part of a postmark. On one, the stamp is a bit abraded (Grade: 3, $3). On another, the Perak stamp and mark are fine (Grade: 2, $4). On the third, the stamp is fine but the reverse is a mess (Grade: 4, $2).

Ipoh, town centre
Two cards are here. They actually tell you the buildings will be torn down. One, mailed in 1990, has Perak stamp but only partly legible postmark, and also has orange barcode at bottom reverse. Front is near-perfect. (Grade: 3, $4). The other, mailed in 1991, is similar but without the postal bar code (Grade: 2, $4).

Port Kelang, Selangor
Two cards available, mailed five years apart. One from 1986 has Selangor stamp, full postmark, and a small crinkle on upper left front corner (Grade: 2, $4). One from 1991 has stamp but no legible postmark; also pencilled notation of original price of card on reverse, and a postmark smudge on front (Grade: 3, $3).

Typical Malay house
Three cards are available, of this traditional (maybe not so much “typical” any more) Malay village house. Two mailed cards are near-perfect (Grade: 1, $4.50). One has two glitches–it was stamped but not postmarked, and the photo didn’t quite register with the edge of the cardboard backing, which sticks out just a little (Grade: 3, $3).

Pangkor Island
Three are available, in varying conditions. One mailed in 1986 has Johor stamp and full postmark, also a little postmark smudging on front and white correction fluid on reverse (Grade: 3, $4). One has completely full 1991 postmark but more smudging on front (Grade: 3, $4). One mailed in 1991 has Johor stamp and is just average (Grade: 3, $3.50).

Kuala Trengganu, Maziah Palace Arch
Like some other places in Malaysia, Trengganu spells itself in different ways. We just follow the cards. Two from 1991 are here: one with stamp and full postmark (Grade: 1, $4) and the other just with less of a postmark (Grade: 2, $4).

Besarah, Kg. Pantai, Kuantan
For those unfamiliar, this is a fishing village on the peninsular east coast. Three identical cards are available, all from 1991 and all with stamp and almost-legible postmark. They also have some extra handwriting made by the sender in Jawi (Arabic) script. Nice cards. Grades: 1
