Card mailed in mid-90s, Perak stamp, not quite legible postmark. The ferry has largely been overtaken by the bridge, so here’s a relic. Some edge and corner abrasion. Grade: 3

Kuala Lumpur, overview
The good news: one of the few cards from late 80s (mailed in early 1990s) to show all of Kuala Lumpur. The bad news: some ink smudging on the front. Stamp and postmark. Grade: 2

Melaka, St. John’s Hill
Two cards are available, variously mailed in 1986 and 1990, though clearly of different print runs since they have different colours! The 1990 card has Melaka stamp and full postmark with some smudge on front (Grade: 2, $4) and the 1986 card is just a little less good all-around (Grade: 3, $3).

Genting Highlands, hotel, night view
S.W. Singapore card KL8502, mailed in 1991 with stamp and barely legible postmark. We’d love to launch into a long story about Genting but this is hardly the place for it! Grade: 3

Ipoh, Anderson Road
Rare overview of Ipoh, from any year. Card mailed in 1990, has Negeri Sembilan stamp and partly legible postmark; also edge and corner abrasions. Grade: 3

Nice clear card mailed in 1986, with commemorative stamp but lacking clear postmark. Grade: 2

Negaraku progresif
Card jointly issued by the Post Office and a local TV station, this roughly means “my progressive nation” and has a pre-printed stamp. This card was mailed in mid-1990s and is in just average condition. Grade: 3

Negaraku harmoni
Card jointly issued by the Post Office and a local TV station, this roughly means “my nation of harmony” and has a pre-printed stamp. Two are available. One was mailed in the mid-1990s and had been significantly folded (Grade: 4, $2) and the other was mailed in 1993 with an extra stamp and airmail sticker, lacking any postmark but with orange barcoding through the two stamps (Grade: 4, $2).

Temple
We think this temple is in Pahang, but aren’t certain because handwriting obliterates the caption. Card was mailed in 1996, has commemorative stamp and intact postmark and is generally average overall. Grade: 3

Malaysian Fast food
Larger card mailed in early 2000s with two of the same commemorative stamp of the Malaysian king at the time, but illegible postmark. Small pencilled notation of original price on reverse. Little bit of postmark smudging on front. Grade: 3

Orang asli playing nose flute
Orang asli (“original man”) are native Malaysians. Two of these oversized (4-3/4″ x 6-3/4″) cards are available. Each has two commemorative stamps, and almost legible postmark. One has small price notation on reverse. Each has minor edge and corner creasing. Grades: 3

Oversized (4-3/4″ x 6-3/4″) card, mailed in 2004, with two commemorative lighthouse stamps and mostly legible postmark. Grade: 2

You might think Penang was having a blackout when this photo was taken, but probably not. Well, back in those days, you never knew. Oversized card mailed in 2002 has two Perak stamps and legible postmark. Grade: 2

Kuala Lumpur, railway station
As the oversized card shows, this is a beautiful old building in the heart of the city. Mailed in early 2000s, it has two commemorative stamps but not a legible postmark. Grade: 2

Kuala Lumpur, Dataran Merdeka
Dataran Merdeka translates as Merdeka (Independence) Square, and used to be called the Padang. This is a place of many stories. Oversized card mailed in 1992 has Perak stamp and fully legible postmark, plus orange postal bar code at bottom reverse. It’s a nice representative card of K.L. Grade: 2

Cameron Highlands, Boh Tea
This 5″ x 7″ card was mailed in 1991. It has a Perak stamp and full postmark, but overall the card is aging and battered. Postmark smudge on front. Grade: 4

Malacca, Christ Church
Oversized (5″ x 7″) card mailed in 1991 with Melaka stamp and partly legible postmark. This church would never get lost in a snowstorm, that’s for sure. Grade: 2

Near Tioman Island
The card caption is cute, saying “The beautiful island as seen from Tioman Island.” But it doesn’t give the name. Never mind, it’s tropical. Card (5″x7″) mailed in 1991, has Wilayah Persekutan stamp, no legible postmark, and some white correction fluid on reverse. Minor postal creasing. Grade: 3

Welcome to Selangor
Not a very imaginative range of Selangor’s sights but here they are. Card designed for “Visit Malaysia Year 1990,” and we have four of these 5′ x 7″ examples available, all mailed in 1991. One has stamp but lots of smudging on front and back, and a little snip out of lower edge (Grade: 4, $2). Two each have a Johor stamp and complete postmark (Grades: 2, $4). One has a Negeri Sembilan stamp, nearly full postmark, smudging on front, and is a bit messy on the reverse (Grade: 3, $3).

A very nice 5″x 7″ card, mailed in 1991 with commemorative stamp and full postmark. Did you know that was, and maybe still is, the world’s tallest flagpole? Or the world’s largest flag? Or both? Or neither? Grade: 1

A 5″ x 7″ card, mailed in 1991, with Melaka stamp and partial postmark. Latent creasing. Grade: 3

Kuala Lumpur, Merdeka Square fountain
If not for the massive postmarking on front, this would be a splendid card. As it is, even with stamp and readable postmark on reverse, it can only be rated Grade: 4

Everything about this 1991 card is Malacca: the card, the stamp, the postmark, the sender. Some latent but almost invisible creasing. Grade: 2

Tioman Island, sunset
Hey, it could be anywhere, but it’s Tioman! This 5×7 card was mailed in 1990, has orange postal bar code on reverse, and is utterly unremarkable. It needs someone to love it. Grade: 3

We wish this 5″ x 7″ card could be “scratch and sniff” but it’s not, so if you’re not sure about durians, you can do some research. Mailed in 1991, the postmark is blurry and the stamp is torn. Minor latent creasing on front. Grade: 4

Welcome to Terengganu
A nice 5″ x 7″ card from an interesting state on Peninsular Malaysia’s east coast. Two mailed cards are available from 1991. One has a Terengganu stamp and partial postmark (Grade: 2, $6) and the other has a commemorative wasp stamp with partly legible postmark (Grade: 1, $6.50).

5″ x 7″ card, mailed in 1991 from Pahang and with a Pahang stamp and almost full postmark. Really minor postal creasing evident on front. Grade: 2

Shah Alam, Sultan Salahuddin Mosque
Three of these 5″ x 7″ cards are available. Two have a stamp and partial postmark. Clean fronts. (Grades: 2, $5) and the third has some creasing at corners but a full postmark (Grade: 3, $4).

A staple and profitable commodity in Malaysia. This 5″ x 7″ card was mailed from Melaka in 1991, with stamp and mostly legible postmark. Grade: 1

Malacca, Santiago Gate
From 1991, a 5″x 7″ card, clean front, stamp and full postmark on back, together with orange postal bar code on reverse bottom, and a slight other stain on reverse. It’s a good card. Grade: 3

Kuala Lumpur, National Art Gallery
Another 5×7 card, mailed in 1990 with stamp commemorating International Literacy Year. Partial postmark, and those splotches on the front are part of the card, not stains!! Grade: 2

Teh tarik (pulled tea)
Common in roadside stalls and small restaurants, this is one of Malaysia’s special little practices. The tea is good to drink, too. 5×7 card mailed in 1996, has Perak stamp and partial postmark. Grade: 2

From 1991, with Perlis stamp (rare to see these) and full postmark, a 5×7 card from this popular holiday destination. Grade: 1

The scan can’t show this mailed card (with stamp) too well because the base picture is surrounded by blank white for 3/4″ to more than 1″ on each side. A tiny caption on bottom front says “National Monument.” Grade: 3

How intensely ironic for Malaysians that the National Monument was designed by the American sculptor, Felix W. de Weldon. Maybe you need to have lived in Malaysia to understand why that is ironic. This card was mailed in the early 1990s, has a Negeri Sembilan stamp and partial postmark, as well as a bit of latent postal corner creasing. Grade: 2

Penang Bridge by night
Mailed in 1991 from Jerteh, with a Terengganu stamp and partly legible postmark. Minor ink smudging on the front, and a bit of Wite-out on the back. Grade: 4

Kuala Lumpur, Railway Station
Two cards are available. One was mailed in 1990, but only a bit of postmark made it to the opposite corner (Grade: 3, $3). The other was mailed in 1991 with commemorative wasp stamp and partial postmark (Grade: 3, $3). By the way, this is a wonderful old railroad station. The only problem is there really aren’t many places for trains to go.
