-
Kuala Lumpur, Lake Garden, National Monument
Mailed in 1991 with Selangor stamp and legible postmark, just a bit of postmark ink on the front, a nice card. Grade: 2
-
Trengganu, beach
The thing about this beach is that, apart from being rife with undertows and other natural dangers, it is also where Vietnamese refugees and their boats used to come ashore. That does not appear in postcards, however. Mailed in 1988 with stamp and full postmark. We must verify availability of this card. Grade: 1
-
Kuala Lumpur, National Monument
Two of these S.W. Singapore cards (KL1721) in virtually identical condition with Selangor stamps and legible postmarks, mailed in 1986. Grades: 1
-
Selangor Sultan Silver Jubilee celebration
Something of a specialty card, published by Oriental Pearl (G.W. 452) and mailed in 1991 though the postmark is not really there. Grade: 3
-
Ipoh, Railway station
G.W.393 card mailed in 1991 with Perak stamp and postmark, so everything is in place. Grade: 2

Feri Malaysia, Cruise Muhibah
Quoting the caption of this card, issued by the company Feri Malaysia Sdn Bhd, “Cruise Muhibah the only passenger ship plying Kuantan, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu and Singapore … weighing 7,900 tons, 134 meters long, can accommodate 600 passengers.” You could get all that through Google but we saved you the effort. Mailed in the late 1980s, with stamp but only partial postmark. Grade: 2
-
Kuantan, Telok Chempedak Beach
Many cards of this beach because it is (was) essentially the first decent one reachable on a cross-country drive from Kuala Lumpur to the east coast. Mailed in 1990, with stamp there. Grade: 3
-
Kelantan, waterfall
Waterfalls are abundant in Malaysia but are overdeveloped and trashy as soon as they are “discovered.” We absolutely will not tell you where the best ones are. You may wonder where the waterfall is in this card. Good question. Card mailed in 1988, with stamp and full postmark. Grade: 1
-
Penang, beach at Rasa Sayang
Once, at this beach, which is not quite as pristine as the card makes it look, we saw a crow swoop down, pluck a dead fish floating on the surface, and then drop the fish on someone lying on the sand. In this area, one is better off sticking to hotel pools. Maybe it’s better now. Mailed in 1988, stamp OK, partial postmark. Grade: 2
-
Kuantan, Telok Chempedak sunrise
Oriental Pearl card G.W. 377, mailed in 1991 with stamp, postmark, and orange bar code. Grade: 3
-
Kota Bharu, Greetings from market
The market in question is in Kota Bharu on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. This card was mailed in 2004, with two royalty stamps but indistinct postmark. Grade: 2
-
Penang Bird Park: owls, greetings
Would be a great, mailed card but for an abrasion on the bottom caused by the cancellation machine, not an uncommon problem on Malaysian postcards. Grade: 3
-
Taiping Lake, Perak
Two mailed cards are available. Each has stamp and postmark. One is Grade 2 ($3.00) and the other is Grade 3 ($2.00).
-
West coast fishing village
Not a beautiful card but typical in its viewpoint. Mailed in Selangor in 1991 with stamp and nearly complete postmark. Grade: 2
-
Penang, state mosque
This Great Wall card G.W. 323 was mailed in 1991 with a Kedah stamp but indistinct postmark. The State Mosque (Masjid Negeri) is located at the junction of Air Itam Road and Green Lane, and opened in 1980. Grade: 2
-
Penang, Batu Ferringi beach
This Abdul Majeed card 102-265 makes Batu Ferringi (Ferringhi) look quite idyllic. Mailed in 1991 with Selangor stamp and most of a postmark. Grade: 1
-
Kedah, the rice bowl
In the background, Kedah Peak, a “popular highland resort” we never heard of when we lived in the country. Mailed in 1986 with Johor stamp and full Selangor postmark. Some postmark smudge on the front. Grade: 2
-

Mailed in 1990 with a Pulau Pinang stamp but no legible postmark. Grade: 2
-

Fascination card 288914, mailed in 1990 with a single stamp and partly legible postmark. Grade: 2
-

-
Kuala Lumpur, Jameq Mosque
Two of these 5″ x 7″ mosque cards are available, each mailed in 1991 with a Terengganu stamp and indistinct postmark. Those blotches on the lower left are part of the card’s design. We are not sure why, though. Grades: 1
-
Greetings from Penang – beaches
Fascination card 288903 with fanciful caption, Pahang stamp, and no legible postmark. Grade: 3
-
Malacca, Proclamation of Independence Memorial
Oriental Pearl card 13090, 5″ x 7″, mailed in 1991 with full postmark and Negeri Sembilan stamp. Nice. Grade: 2
-
Lucky Strike cigarette calendar
What makes this card unusual is not so much the 1986 calendar sponsored by Lucky Strike Filter cigarettes–though you do not see a cigarette–as it is that it was used by the Malaysian Post Office to introduce a postcode system in the country. Each card has the correct code and city for the intended recipient’s area. It was delivered, but being from the Post Office itself, was of course not stamped or postmarked. Fully pre-printed in Bahasa Malaysia (the Malay language) on the reverse. Grade: 1
-
Langkawi, Burau Bay Resort
Two of these 5″ x 7″ cards from 1991 are available, stamps and postmarks there, showing the “delightfully designed Burau Bay Resort.” There’s a lot more but we’re not on their payroll. Grades: 2 ($3) and 1 ($4).
-

These are Dalmatian Pelicans (“Undan Gangsa” in Malay). Card mailed in 1991 with Pulau Pinang stamp but only partly legible postmark. Grade: 2
-
Greetings from Tambun Inn, Ipoh
At the time we got the card (1980s) it called the Tambun Inn “Ipoh’s most prestigious hotel.” Wonder if that is still true? Unused. The scan cuts a little bit off the lowest caption. Grade: 3

Same photo as 20316240. Unused card from the 1980s, sponsored by Salem. Grade: 2 (We must verify availability)
