Johor Baru, Causeway at night
Two of these are available, mailed five years apart. The one from 1986 has Selangor stamp and near-full postmark, also some white correction fluid on reverse and some aging. The one from 1991 was stamped for mailing but machine missed it. Grades: 3

Kuala Lumpur, Kompleks Dayabumi at night
Two cards are available, from 1991. One has Selangor stamp and full postmark (Grade: 1, $5). The other also has Selangor stamp, but no readable postmark and some creasing on front (Grade: 3, $3).

Kuala Lumpur, National Monument
Four mailed cards are available. The fronts of all four are excellent and identical. The backs show they come from different print runs and even have different index numbers. Each has a Malaysian stamp. Card A is a commemorative stamp and partly legible postmark from Grik (Grade: 2, $5). Card B is also a commemorative stamp but less legible postmark (Grade: 2, $4.50). Card C has Wilayah Persekutuan stamp and partly legible postmark, and orange postal bar code (Grade: 3, $3.50). Card D also has Wilayah stamp but no postmark at all (Grade: 3, $3).

Ikan Patin Masak Tempoyak
The card shows what’s in this traditional dish but doesn’t stress the basic ingredients of catfish and fermented durian paste. For most foreigners, it’s an acquired taste — if ever. Mailed in 2024, with stamp and postmark. Grade: 1

Kuala Lumpur, Hilton Hotel
This stopped being a Hilton Hotel many years ago. Two of these cards are available, not to be confused with others very similar. Both were mailed in 1986. One has upper left corner crease and postmark smudging on front; stamp and nearly full postmark on aging reverse (Grade: 3, $5). One has major postmark ink on front and back, with a stamp but illegible postmark (Grade: 4, $3).

Two are available. Each was mailed in 1990, each has stamp and partial postmark. One has some postmark smudging on front; the other, none of that but a small crease on lower right front corner. Both Grades: 3

This 4-3/4″ x 6-3/4″ Synergy card SP033 was mailed in 2013 with stamp, postmark, and red Via Air Mail chop. Some minor postal bumping around the edges. Grade: 2

A set of ten unused cards in a cardboard cover measuring 5″ x 12-1/2″. This was issued in conjunction with the International Educational & Cultural Exchange Foundation and the Maritime Archaeology Museum, and the cards show “past and present Malacca scenery.” Grade: 1

Two cards of the resort hotel in Johor were mailed in 1991. One has Melaka stamp and mostly readable postmark (Grade: 2, $4) and the other has a Pahang stamp but illegible postmark (Grade: 2, $3.50).

As we can attest from personal experience, Thaipusam can be a colourful and intense vision. This card, mailed from Malaysia in 2014, with stamp and postmark, only hints at what happens. Grade: 1

Card might date from 1970s but was mailed in 1986, with heavily postmarked stamp. A bit of postmark smudging on front. Grade: 3

Kuantan, shore
This real-photo card had been blank on the reverse but the writer’s message identifies Peninsular Malaya’s East Coast location. The card was mailed in 1961 with its postmark and a “Singapore Malaya” stamp. The diagonal brown line on the left might have been remnants of a rubber band. Grade: 3

Subang, international airport
Two cards are available, mailed five years apart. One from 1986 has intact Johor stamp, partly legible postmark, some extra pencilled price notation and staining on reverse, and postmark smudging on front (Grade: 3, $4). One from 1991 was mailed with Pahang stamp and mostly illegible postmark, aged more heavily on reverse but front is cleaner (Grade: 3, $5).

Bandar Kota Bharu, Kelantan
The principal city (“Bandar” in Bahasa Malaysia) of the Malaysian state of Kelantan, “KB” as it is known is a conservative outpost. This card was mailed most likely in the 1970s, and has two different stamps and a large postmark but it also suffers from something — possibly a thick rubber band — having stuck on the reverse. egardless, the front is fine and is a good multi-view snapshot into this remote location. Grade: 4
