Meet Chiayi Project
From the Yuh Tong hotel, but we gave up looking for what this Project is/was. Or maybe it’s all in the Chinese-only caption on the reverse. Unused. Grade: 1
-
Chiayi, NICE Prince Hotel
Unused. Grade: 1
-
Kaohsiung, Leisure travel in harbor city
The ultimate novelty postcard is unique in design and impossible to scan clearly, sorry. Most of those design elements look like punch-outs but the orange oval at the bottom is either pottery or some other hard, raised material. We can’t say because this card is still in its original cellowrap. The reverse has Chinese-only captioning, and more information (and a QR Code) on a separate strip. Complicated! Grade: 1
-
Sun Moon Lake
Mailed in 1987 with stamp and postmark, and trilingual airmail sticker. Grade: 1

“Maximum” Cards of Taiwan Relics Postage Stamps (Issue of 2020) (set of 4)
First, despite what’s written on the cardboard cover for this set, these are not maximum cards. They have no stamps and no postmarks. But they are unused, and show Gongziliao Fort, the Railway Division of Taiwan Governor General’s Bureau of Transportation, Dalongdong Baoan Temple, and Tainan District Court Building. Chunghwa Post is strange this way. We once went into one of its philatelic branches and saw a similar set of “maximum” cards without stamps. When we pointed this out to the clerk, she said — in effect — oh yes, that’s how we do it, and took out some stamps and a postmark chop so she could do it on the spot. (But not all Taiwanese maximum cards are managed this way.) Grade: 1
-
Pinkoi product
We didn’t know how to describe this, but it’s attributed to Pinkoi, which looks a bit like Etsy, and was mailed from Taiwan in 2020 with stamp and full postmark. Grade: 1
-
Taiwan Snacks
We have often commented on the brilliance in design and variety of Taiwan postcards, and this is as good an example as any. Of course it helps if you can read Chinese, but you definitely get the idea. Mailed from Taiwan in 2020, with two different stamps and postmark. Grade: 1

Puli, Nantou County, Paper Dome
The postcard itself (mailed in 2020 with two stamps and postmark) didn’t explain too much, and the writer was feeling a bit sad that day, so we did as we always do and went to Wikipedia to learn more. Here is what they said, slightly edited: “The Paper Dome (桃米紙教堂) is a temporary church building constructed using paper tubes as structural elements. It was designed by Shigeru Ban, Japanese architect, (and) built on September 17, 1995 to serve as a temporary church after the Great Hanshin earthquake. The venue was not limited for use to religious worship but also used as a place for communal gatherings. However, when the church community planned to build a permanent building, the structure was donated to Taomi Village in Puli Township, Nantou County which had suffered the 921 earthquake in 1999. The deconstructed structure was shipped in 2006 to Taiwan, and is now one of the top tourist attractions in that area.” Grade: 1

Maximum Cards of Ancient Chinese Paintings Postage Stamps: “Syzygy of the Sun, Moon, and the Five Planets (set of 6)
Such a long title — and we have even abbreviated it — for a nice set of six maximum cards, of which our scan shows you two. Issued on 11 November 2020 by Chunghwa Post, and with a cardboard cover. And in case you didn’t know the word “syzygy” (we sure didn’t), Wikipedia tells us it means “In astronomy, a syzygy is a roughly straight-line configuration of three or more celestial bodies in a gravitational system.” Grade: 1
