-
Taiwan University special postmark
A lot going on with this card, so we will start with the front: one stamp (out of four, in total), with a special architectural postmark. On the bank, three more large and different stamps, and two full “normal” postmarks along with caption in Chinese. Grade: 1
-
Mazu, the ancient battlefield
The caption goes on to say “Sleeping on Spears, Awaiting the Dawn” (in English) and much more than that in Chinese. Mazu (or Matsu) has a long history of arguably being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The card was mailed in 2012 with coloured meter stamp, and airmail and address labels affixed. Grade: 3

-

Impressive display off one of the world’s tallest buildings. The card was mailed in 2012, with two different stamps, postmark, and minor postal creasing. Grade: 2
-
Girl
Thin card and we apologise for not being able to tell you what she is saying. We suppose the heart gives it away. Mailed in 2012, with stamp and blurred postmark, and trilingual airmail sticker. Postal creasing. Grade: 3
-
Chiang Kai-shek and wife
Unused, contemporary card with an old photograph. The reverse of this item is heavily captioned (only in Chinese) and though it can easily be used as a postcard, one would need to write around the many printed elements on it. Grade: 1
-
Stylized Mao Tse-tung
Bear with us, here. This unused “Chiang’s Talk” card was made in Taiwan, but Chairman Mao definitely wasn’t. Grade: 1
-
Taipei, Taiwan dragon
“Chiang’s Talk” unused card. Grade: 1
-
Taiwan Coffee
Many Taiwanese postcards have an impressive degree of artistic flair. This may be because the six or seven natural and man-made wonders on the island (Taipei 101, Taroko Gorge, Love River, Sun Moon Lake …) can be covered in relatively few designs. So we have interesting entries like this one, which is unused and can be used as a postcard though there is a lot of captioning and graphic on the reverse. Grade: 1
-
A Girl Savage Taiwan
We recognise the front caption and graphic from a very old card, but this is an unused, contemporary card, heavily captioned on the reverse and with other printed graphics. Grade: 1
-
Year
The Chinese word for “year” on this unused card. Grade: 1
-

Mailed in 2012 with two stamps, not-quite-legible postmark, and small air mail sticker affixed. Grade: 2
-
The Goodbye Girl
Front is OK but reverse is almost fully taken up by taped messages, addresses, stamp and postmark. Grade: 4
-
Youth Travel
Mailed with two stamps and postmark, but the card has what looks like a large water stain across about a third of the top reverse. Grade: 5
-
Taichung, former and new City Hall
Unused 4-3/4″ x 8-7/8″ card published by the Taichung City Government. Grade: 1
-
Yunlin, Timeless Journey
A “local” card promoting various agricultural events–as well as cycling. Mailed in 2012 with two stamps and full postmark. A small bit of white correctional fluid over one letter. Grade: 2
-
Shoreline spray
We didn’t know what to call this, but if you can read Chinese, there is a very long caption on the reverse–along with stamp and postmark. Grade: 1
-
Peng Hu Bay Bridge and fireworks (3D)
This 3D postcard has something for (almost) everyone. Apart from being 3D–lenticular printing–a portion of the back could be pulled out so the card could stand alone on a table, as a framed picture might. Mailed in 2012 with a coloured meter stamp, light blue trilingual airmail sticker, and one other small sticker affixed. If not for the extra sticker, Grade 1, but because of that only, Grade: 3
-
Guns and rabbit (3D)
Mailed in 2012 with (real) stamp, blurred postmark, and trilingual Air Mail sticker. If you turn this lenticular-printed card to the left, you see 20 pistols and rifles mounted on a wall. If you then turn it to the right, you see what seems to be a ceramic or metal rabbit. Unusual juxtaposition, and someone must be able to explain it. Grade: 1
-
Taiwan high-speed rail
Bilingually captioned in Chinese and English, showing the high-speed rail link between Taipei and Kaohsiung. The card was mailed in 2012 with two different stamps and full postmark. Grade: 1
