Tower of London, Groups of 16th Century Armour
This is London Stereoscopic Company’s card, unnumbered as far as we can see. Not postally used, but with a long message from 1913 completely covering the message and address areas. We like the message, which would not likely be written in contemporary times: “…don’t come to London, the smooth and easy road to Hades doesn’t begin to be lined with the temptations that the shops of London hold out …” (There’s much more.) Grade (only because of the writing): 4
-

-
Southampton, The Dolphin Hotel
Unused R.A.P. Co. Trust House Series card No. 97 (“The Seal of Artistic Excellence”), very old. To our bemusement, the hotel is still around, now called Mercure Southampton Centre Dolphin, with average online reviews but it must be doing something right to have stuck around for so long. Grade: 1
-

Unused, old, unattributed and unnumbered postcard. Grade: 1
-
Stoke Poges, Gray’s Tomb in “The Country Churchyard”
Here’s something from Wikipedia: “(Thomas) Gray’s ‘Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard’ is believed to have been written in the churchyard of the Church of England parish church of Saint Giles in Stoke Poges. Other churches have claimed the honor, including Everdon, Northamptonshire. Gray is buried at St Giles. John Penn of Stoke had built a large monument displaying the Elegy nearby.” As for the card, unused, aged, unattributed, unnumbered, and clean. Grade: 1
-
Isle of Man, 1939 Supercharged BMW 500cc
Yet another Isle of Man Post Office transport Stamp Card No. 4(5), commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Isle of Man T.T. Motorcycle Races 1987 and 100th Anniversary of St. John Ambulance Brigade. We do hope the designers appreciate the irony here. Unused. Grade: 1
