Regards from Gjakova
Gjakova postcards are not all that plentiful in variety or quantity, but here’s one featuring the Ethnological Museum, the Mosque of Hadum, and the Clock Tower (which by the way is very impressive lit up at night). Unused. Grade: 1
-
Hello from Gjakova
Showing Gjakova’s Old Town Promenade, and views of the town and the Regional Museum. Unused card. Grade: 1
-
Gjakova, Hotel Carshia e Jupave
We stayed here. It was wonderful; likewise, its restaurant. If you ever find yourself in Gjakova … now as for the card, like many from Gjakova, it is blank on the reverse. Unused. Grade: 1
-
Welcome in Gjakova, five views
Unused card, blank on the reverse. Grade: 1

Welcome in Gjakova, eight views
Unused card, blank on the reverse. This looks a lot like a museum, though we could be wrong. Grade: 1

Peja, Hotel Rugova
This property may have changed its name to Hotel Dukagjini (we think so), and if so, it is very highly rated, though possibly suffering slightly from being even too popular. Of course, if this is some other hotel, we take it all back. Unused card. Grade: 1
-
Peja, night city view
Unused, the building is unidentified. Grade: 1
-
Peja, deserted night scene
Somewhat bleak but unused card in good condition. We know these buildings are famous (for Peja, in Çarshia e Gjatë Old Quarter) but we just don’t know what they are. Grade: 1
-
Peja, Bajrakli Xhamia
Unused card. These horizontal white lines in the upper section of many Peja postcards are not flaws; they are part of the design. Grade: 1
-
Peja, three views
Unused card, with some smudging (probably at source) on the reverse. Grade: 2
-
Peja, Rugova
Unusually for these Peja postcards, this multiview of the Rugove Gorges area has extensive captions in English and Albanian. Much as we wanted to enjoy our own visit through the Gorges, we found it better to appreciate little things like lots of ripe fruit along the roadsides, and microviews of the river, instead of the notable amounts of litter piling up. (None of that will be on a postcard.) Unused. Grade: 1
-
Rugova Valley
Unused. Grade: 1
-
Prishtina, multiple views
Identified in the caption of this unused card: Mother Theresa Square and Ibrahim Rugova statue. Grade: 1

Greetings from Kosova, multiple kullas
As often, we are indebted to Wikipedia for this explanation of kullas: “A distinctive type of Ottoman tower houses meaning “mountain” or “top” via Turkish kule, developed and were built in the Balkans, as well as in Romania, after the Ottoman conquest in the Middle Ages by both Christian and Muslim communities. The practice began during the decline of Ottoman power in the 17th century and flourished until the early 20th century. The tower houses were typically made out of stone, rose three or four storeys, and were square or rectangular in shape. They served both military (defence, watchtower) and civilian (residential) purposes in order to protect the extended family.” When Wikipedia is good, it’s very good. The bilingual captions on this unused card explain each one of those you see. Grade: 1
-
Peja, Trashëgimia Kulturore Historike (Cultural Historical Heritage)
Two of these unused cards, briefly captioned in Albanian, are available. Grades: 1
-
Rugova, three locations
We saw all of this, and it looks like this, plus more. It does look idyllic on a postcard. Unused. Grade: 1
-
Gryka e Rugovës (Rugova Gorge)
Unused card. Grade: 1
-
Peja, three views
Çarshia e Gjatë and Bajrakli Xhamia (mosque) are identified, from the Old Quarter. Unused card. Grade: 1
-
Regards from Kosova, three views
The views include (as captioned) Peja’s City Center; Prizren’s old town; and Prishtina’s Skenderbeg statue and Governmental building. Unused card. Grade: 1
-
Kosova, Land of culture diversity
Unused card whose bilingual caption identifies the Patriarchate of Peja; Mosque of Rahovec; Catholic church of Klina; and Bajraktar’s Tomb in Prishtina. Grade: 1
-
Srecka (Zhupa), bride’s face
Extensive captions in Albanian and English give a full description of what’s happening here, somewhat plaintively remarking that “Today, this tradition is at the verge of extinction.” We wouldn’t know for certain, but suspect the brides might be relieved. Unused card. Grade: 1
-
Kosova – folk costume and musical instruments
Not only does this unused postcard give you a wide range of costumes and instruments, it identifies them (on the front) and tries its best to explain in the bilingual captions on the reverse. Grade: 1

Përshëndetje nga Kosova (Greetings from Kosovo)
We sometimes observe that one postcard fits many of our theme categories. This is one of those. Bilingual Albanian/English captions identify Kosovo National Park “Sharr Mountains”, Brezna Lake close Koritnik Mountain; Marble Cave (Lipjan); Mirusha Waterfall (Llapusha); Badovc Lake (Prishtina); National Park “Accursed Mountains”; Kucishta Lake; and a Sharr dog in the center. That should keep the search engines busy. Unused. Grade: 1

Peja, 16 Qershor 1999
This postcard has a story with a good outcome, much like Peja itself, up until this writing, anyway. One of our Blog entries explains, but here’s the short version: the card was mailed, but arrived without a postmark. For this and one other (see next entry), we sent it back to Kosovo’s main post office with a gentle request that they postmark these and just mail them back. Much later, they did! So this card has survived two trips, with stamp and (now) postmark intact, and Kosovo postcards are hard enough to source as it is. This card is definitely cheaper than going there and trying to manage this yourself. Grade: 1

Peja, Bajrakli Xhamia
See the description of our previous card 20561040 for the similar explanation. This card is the mailed version of our 20561019. It took a lot of work to get this right! Grade: 1

Përshëndetje nga Prizeni (Hello from Prizren)
In 1980, someone wrote a message on the back, and even put a stamp on the card, but that stamp is long gone. Grade: 4
