    Price: $3.00

La Habana, Museo de la Revolucion
  • Aerial view of Havana

Unused, aging card with some tape along the upper reverse edge.  We would like to repeat the delightful English version of the caption:  “The elegant silhouette of Havana’s buildings, seen against the rich Cuban blue sky and sea, gives the city its gay and modern character.”  May it ever be so again.  By the way, inside the stamp area this appears:  “JUST DROP IN THE MAILBOX.  Postage paid by Cuban Tourist Commission.”  Who knows, some day maybe we’ll try that.  Grade: 3

    Code: 20104044

    Price: $5.00

    Aerial view of Havana
  • Havana, Castillo del Morro

There’s no sign this card (1990s?) was postally used but it has a pre-printed stamp on the reverse, a long message but no address, and some tape at the reverse top.  Grade: 4

    Code: 20104045

    Price: $2.00

    Havana, Castillo del Morro

    Price: $3.00

    Bayamo, National Monument, Main Church
  • Havana, 1741 Cathedral

Among other tidbits in the bilingual captions, “Christopher Columbus’ body rested here for many years.” Unused but with tape pieces along the upper reverse.  This is another of the “Just drop in the mailbox” cards where postage was not needed.  Grade: 4

    Code: 20104047

    Price: $4.00

    Havana, Cathedral Square
  • Havana, 1st May Day Celebration

What the English caption of this unused card means (as we can tell from the Spanish and Russian captions alongside) is not that it was the first celebration, but the celebration on 1st May.  Either way, a fine historical artifact.  Grade: 2

    Code: 20104049

    Price: $8.00

    Havana, 1st May Day Celebration
  • Havana, Mirador de Bellomonte

  • La Habana, El Morro

Not sure if this card was mailed or not.  It has a large and colourful pre-printed “postage paid” stamp in the right area, and there’s a message and address but no postmark.  There is however some tape on the right reverse edge.  Grade: 4

    Code: 20104052

    Price: $3.00

    La Habana, El Morro
  • La Habana, El Capitolio

    Price: $3.00

    La Habana, El Capitolio

    Price: $3.00

La Habana, Vista del Morro y entrada de la bahia
  • La Habana, Hotel Comodoro

When the photo on this unused card was taken, the hotel may have been in better shape than online reviews suggest it is now.  Sounds as though it could use a great deal of TLC.  So could the card:  heavily fingermarked on the back, and small pieces of tape on the upper back edge.  Grade: 4

    Code: 20104055

    Price: $2.00

    Price: $4.00

    Havana, Vista de Malecon
  • Holguin, Guardalavaca – Piscina Hotel Atalantico (sic) Norte

    Code: 20104057

    Price: $2.00

Holguin, Guardalavaca – Piscina Hotel Atalantico (sic) Norte
  • Cayo Largo, View from Cayo Largo Marina

Unused card, comic and in great condition apart from the two small pieces of tape near the left reverse edge.  Grade: 3

    Laguna de Tesoro
  • Granma, Panoramic view of the Marea del Portillo Hotel

An old and what might be the only standby in this area, now called Club Amigo Farallon del Caribe – Marea del Portillo.  It gets average-to-good online reviews, which helps if it is indeed the only option in the area.  We’ve not been there, we don’t know.  The card is unused, in good condition apart from the same two small pieces of tape that plague many of our Cuban postcards.  Grade: 3

    Code: 20104060

    Price: $3.00

Granma, Panoramic view of the Marea del Portillo Hotel
  • Cayo Largo, aerial view

    Price: $3.00

    Guama, Taino Indian Village
  • Camaguey, Playa Santa Lucia, Club Mayanabo

Not a very flattering photo on this unmailed card … the property’s name now is Club Amigo Mayanabo and online reviews are mixed apart from one very clear instruction:  don’t go in February unless you are part of the annual Italian tour group.  Sounds like we would have needed anger management lessons if we had been there.  The card?  Not postally used, but with a message on the left and some tape on the top.  Grade: 4

    Code: 20104066

    Price: $2.00

Camaguey, Playa Santa Lucia, Club Mayanabo

    Camaguey, Colonial mansion

    Code: 20104068

    Price: $3.00

    Motel Balneario del Sol
  • Las Tunas, Hotel Cadillac

Now known as the Islazul Cadillac, not much in the way of recent reviews so we will just tell you the card is unused apart from the name “Cuba” written on the upper left reverse.  Grade: 3

    Code: 20104069

    Price: $2.00

    Las Tunas, Hotel Cadillac
  • Las Tunas, Plaza de la Revolucion

The front of this card is good.  The back is a mess of stamps, full 2013 postmark, taped address label and another label partly ripped off.  Grade: 5

    Price: $2.00

Las Tunas, Plaza de la Revolucion
  • Cienfuegos, Hotel Jagua

    Code: 20104071

    Price: $2.00

    Cienfuegos, Hotel Jagua
  • Cienfuegos, multiple views

Unused card: “Puerto y Palacio del Valle”.  But (always a “but”):  two small pieces of clear tape near top reverse.  Grade: 3

    Price: $2.00

Pinar del Rio, Underground river in the Indian’s Cave
  • Pinar del Rio, Cathedral

The front of this unmailed card is good.  The reverse is is very bad condition, with writing, tape, and abrasions.  But it is authentically Cuban.  Grade: 5

    Code: 20104074

    Price: $1.00

    Pinar del Rio, Cathedral
  • Pinar del Rio, Vinales Valley

Unused card, significantly aged, and with tape on top of the reverse.  Grade: 4

  • Trinidad, Museo A. Von Humboldt

We know you want to know:  who was A. Von Humboldt?  Well, Baron Alexander von Humboldt (September 14, 1769-May 6, 1859) was a Prussian naturalist and explorer who explored much of Central and South America.  Apparently including Cuba.  Unused card with tape at upper edge of reverse.  Grade: 3

    Code: 20104077

    Price: $3.00

    Trinidad, Museo A. Von Humboldt
  • Cobblestone streets in Trinidad

At least this unused card has two persons in it, even if you need to search for them.  Some tape at upper edge of reverse.  Grade: 3

    Code: 20104078

    Price: $3.00

    Cobblestone streets in Trinidad
  • Varadero, Hotel Atabey

The new name of this hotel is BelleVue Palma Real, and if online reviews are to be believed (and we have to say, those reviews are consistent), there are only so many different ways to say “What do you expect, it’s Cuba”.  Clientele to now seems to be almost entirely Canadians who commiserate with the staff and hate the management.  Anyway … the card is unused and with quite small bits of tape along upper reverse edge.  Grade: 3

    Code: 20104079

    Price: $3.00

    Varadero, Hotel Atabey
  • Varadero, Villa Punta Blanca

If you do an online search for this property, you will be led up a bunch of blind alleys.  One person laconically posted a forum question:  what is this called now?  We have no idea.  Your turn!  Unused card with tape on upper reverse.  Grade: 4

    Code: 20104080

    Price: $2.00

    Varadero, Villa Punta Blanca
