One of many New Guinea highways
From Grogan Photo Co. of Danville, Illinois (!), this unused and probably faded real photo card. Grade: 3
-
The village people
No, not those Village People. Unused card with captions in English and Finnish, making us wonder what the real story is. Grade: 1
-
Cendrawasih – Red bird of paradise
Scientific name: Paradisaea rubra, also cendrawasih merah, on this official card from Post PNG. Two cards are available. One is unused (Grade: 1, $6) and one has a large stamp and clear Kokopo postmark, without address or message (Grade: 1, $12).
-
Red bird of paradise
Paradisaea rubra on this unused, official card issued by Post PNG. Or maybe not Paradisaea rubra, because the caption on the back says “Paradisaea raggiana is the national bird of Papua New Guinea…” and goes on to describe that species’ status. Three of these cards are available. Grades: 1
-
East New Britain, Discover
Unused card (with Tavurvur volcano in the background), no additional captioning. The card’s reverse is very richly coloured and putting a message on there would challenge both the writer and the postal workers. Two of these cards are available. Grades: 1
-
Milne Bay Province, Kitava Island
Unused, official card from Post PNG. While the caption describes Milne Bay’s situation within the national geography, we will add that Kitava is one of four major islands in the Trobriand Islands archipelago. So this is a remote location. Grade: 1
-
Kokoda Historical
Technically not a postcard because the reverse is fully printed, this is an ad card for a private guide. In return for listing the card, we’ll leave contact details visible. Kokoda Trail is a well-traveled but arduous trek. Grade: 2
-
Kokoda – Trek Papua New Guinea
Unused, official card from Post PNG. An informative caption briefly explains the Track’s history and location. Two cards are available. Grades: 1
-
Greetings from Kokopo Rabaul
Where are you going to find a more exotic Large Letter postcard than this? Unused. Grade: 1
-
Greetings from Kokopo Rabaul – multiple views
If you don’t know Rabaul’s history–and we admit, we didn’t before we visited–it’s worth seeing the Wikipedia entry, at least. With that in hand, being there and standing on those shores conveys a range of thought and imagination. Unused card. Grade: 1
-
Discover Kokopo – Rabaul sunset
Unused. Grade: 1
-

Unused, official card published by Post PNG in 2015. We have five of these. Grades: 1

-
East New Britain Province, Mask Festival, tubuans and participants
Official card issued by Post PNG. The caption describes Rabaul’s volcanic destruction but misses the chance to explain anything about the Festival. Tubuans and Duk Duk are something we may never fully understand. We have an unused postcard (Grade: 1, $8), and one other with large stamp and clear Kokopo postmark but no handwriting, so it’s ready to go (Grade: 1, $16).
-
East New Britain Province, Mask Festival, traditional mask from pomio area
Rivalling Thaipusam for complicated festival wear, this mask on an unused, official card from Post PNG. Grade: 1
-
Milne Bay Province, Nuratu Island, MV Tiari
Even when you’re there, this is a long way from anywhere. Unused, official Post PNG card, though creased in the way it would be if it had been in someone’s back pocket and they sat on it. Grade: 3
-
Orchids, multiple
If ever a country could have orchids, it would be PNG. And so they do, in countless varieties. We have two of these cards, official from Post PNG. One is unused (Grade: 1, $4) and the other was mailed with stamp and large postmark in 2017 (Grade: 1, $9).
-

Unused and official Post PNG card whose somewhat more expensive price reflects the K6.20 pre-paid postage printed on the back. (Some irony there.) Grade: 1
-
Port Moresby wharf & city at dusk
Maybe not the most inspiring view, but the choices were very limited — trust us on that. Unused. Grade: 1
-
Port Moresby, Bomana War Cemetery
Unused, official card from Post PNG, with pre-printed “Postage Paid – No additional Postage required” in the stamp area. (Strictly speaking, however, this was not true for at least one postal clerk, who insisted on K6.80 to send the card out of the country.) Grade: 1
-
East New Britain Province, Rabaul, looking across Simpson harbour
Official card from Post PNG. The view from this “volcanoe observatory” is even more expansive than it seems on this postcard. The card has a large stamp with full Kokopo postmark from 2017 but no other handwriting — so you could send this card to yourself, right from your home. Grade: 1
-
East New Britain Province, old japanese world war II submarine base
Official card from Post PNG. This interesting and poignant area is littered with caves and tunnels as reminders of the conflict. One card is unused (Grade: 1, $6) and the other has a large stamp with full Kokopo postmark from 2017 but no other handwriting. (Grade: 1, $12).
-
Rabaul, from Burma Road
Unused, official 2016 card from Post PNG. There’s a standard East New Britain Province caption, but then more about the view as seen on the card. Grade: 1
-
Rabaul, eggs of megapode birds
Unused card from Post PNG. Grade: 1
-
East New Britain Province, Rabaul – Mandarins at Rabaul market
Unused, official Post PNG card with the standard East New Britain Province caption and then this add-on: “The ever popular and locally grown Mandarin (lemon) at the Kokopo Market”. We have two cards. One is unused (Grade: 1, $5) and the other has a large stamp and equally large Kokopo postmark but no other handwriting (Grade: 1, $11).
-
Rabaul, WWII Japanese Barge Tunnel
As of this writing, the scene pictured on this card is not overly commercialised or developed — but that may change before too long. Unused card from Post PNG, with this in the stamp area: “Domestic Postage Paid Papua New Guinea – Additional Postage required if sending overseas”. We’re also guessing there is not a lot of domestic postcard traffic in PNG. Grade: 1
-
Morobe Province, Mumeng District, Snake River Valley
Two of these official cards from Post PNG are available, showing “Customary burial ground”. The card has a “Domestic Postage Paid Papua New Guinea – Additional Postage required if sending overseas,” and the postal clerks insisted on full additional postage regardless. One card is unused (Grade: 1, $8) and the other was mailed with two stamps and postmark in 2017 (Grade: 1, $14).
-
Milne Bay Province, Samarai Island, old anglican church building
Unused card, official, from Post PNG in 2013. The caption is about the Province, not the church. For that, you need Google. Grade: 1
-
Milne Bay Province, Samarai Island – remaining structure of the main wharf
Unused official card from Post PNG. No extraneous writing, but the card has been smudged a bit from handling. Grade: 2
-
Greetings from … Volcano Town
Flip this card over and the caption invites you to visit Rabaul’s Simpson Harbour. As far as we can tell from our own experience, everything they say is true. Three of these cards are available. Grades: 1
-
Papua New Guinea Houses
Unused 4-7/8″ x 6-3/4″ Hyndsight views card No. 18, whose caption identifies the houses as (Top) near Goroka, (Centre) Karu in New Ireland Province, and (Right) Sepik. (You might wonder about “Right” … right!) The stamp area bears this legend: “I like to be seen. PLEASE don’t send me in an envelope.” We totally agree with that idea, even though the chance of successful arrival seems much lower. Grade: 1
-
Traditional Dancer from Eastern Highlands Province
Unused 4-7/8″ x 6-3/4″ Hyndsight views card No. 15. The stamp area bears this legend: “I like to be seen. PLEASE don’t send me in an envelope.” We totally agree with that idea, even though the chance of successful arrival seems much lower. Grade: 1
-
Asaro Mudmen from Eastern Highlands Province
Unused 4-7/8″ x 6-3/4″ Hyndsight views card No. 7. The stamp area bears this legend: “I like to be seen. PLEASE don’t send me in an envelope.” Grade: 1
