Tišnov, Sanitorium
Tišnov is a town in the Brno-Country District of the South Moravian Region, 22 km northwest of Brno, near the confluence of the Svratka and Loučky rivers. In 2010 there were 8,704 inhabitants. Wikipedia tells us this, and we understand we’ve not written abut the facility, but the search engines will tell you that, too. So does the 2001 card’s caption, but all in Czech. Mailed in 2013 with a very large stamp, blue Prioritaire label, and full postmark. Grade: 1 -
Starý pivovár Rosice
A nice long caption, though all in Czech, of this multi-cultural festival in an old brewery. The card was mailed in 2013, with two different stamps, blue Prioritaire label, and faint postmark. One would not intuitively think this was Czech from the main photos, but … Grade: 1
-
Karlovy Vary Casino
Mailed in 2014, with three different stamps, Prioritaire label, and postmark. Grade: 1
-
Lokomotiva 242.205-3 CD u Nezvestic
We doubt we have this header right but the long captions are all in Czech, and this is what we see first. Mailed in 2014, with four different stamps, three postmarks, and a blue Prioritaire label affixed. A great example of a railroad postcard. Grade: 1
-
Cheb (Eger)
Multiple views, all identified, on this card mailed in 2014 with three stamps, two postmarks, and one blue Prioritaire label. Grade: 1
-
Old train
Our header for this contemporary postcard doesn’t do the extensive caption any favours, but it’s all in Czech so you might want to do that research yourself. Mailed in 2014, with stamp and postmark. Grade: 2
-
Plzeň, library
Also known as Pilsen, and famous for beer, not to mention being the fourth most-populated city in the Czech Republic, this city also has a nice library, and here it is. There’s an extensive caption. Mailed in 2014, with stamp, postmark, and blue Prioritaire label. Slight degrading on upper right corner. Grade: 2
-
Brno, St. Peter and Paul’s Cathedral, fireworks
Mailed in 2014 with two different stamps and partial postmark. Grade: 1
-
Prague, city view
Mailed in 2014, the sender used an interesting post office meter label as postage. Also has a blue Prioritaire label. Grade: 1
-
Mirov, Olomoucký kraj (Olomouc Region), State Prison
Irregular shape, mailed in 2014 with stamp, full postmark, and Prioritaire label. Grade: 1

Prague, multiple views
Mailed in 2014, with Prioritaire chop, two stamps, and postmark. The sights on the front are identified in Czech and English on the back, and include the Charles Bridge and Prague Castle, and various versions of old and new towns. Grade: 1
-
Tramvajovy
An extensive caption, entirely in Czech, tells the type and history of this specific tram unit. The card, and the tram, come from Ostrava. Three different stamps, two 2014 postmarks, and blue Prioritaire sticker. This card is a nice “catch” for collectors of tram postcards. Grade: 1
-
Prague, Charles Bridge and Hradcany
Unused card measuring 4-1/8″ x 8-1/4″ and captioned in 12 languages. Sorry if yours is not one of them! Grade: 1
-
Litoměřice, multiple views
Mailed in 2019 with stamp, postmark, blue Prioritaire label, and a small sticker of a cat on the reverse. Grade: 4
-
Pardubice
Mailed in 2020 with stamp, postmark, and large blue Pardubice tourism “chop,” this is a novelty as it is a postcard-sized jigsaw puzzle — we think — as the front is embedded under a clear layer of covering. So it’s heavy. It also has a pasted address label and other stickers on the reverse. Altogether, a very busy postcard. Grade: 3
-
Aukro
As far as we can tell, from far away, Aukro seems to be the eBay of the Czech Republic. Then Google translates the legend on the front of the card as “We carry out your collectibles”. Close enough. The card was mailed in 2020 from Prague, with stamp and blue Prioritaire label. Grade: 1
-
Brno, night view
Mailed with stamp, partly obscured postmark, Prioritaire label, and address label taped on. Grade: 5
-
Usti nad Ladem, Chemical Plant
… at least our limited knowledge of the Czech language suggests that the photo on this unused card is the administration building of a chemical plant — an unlikely subject for a Top 10 postcard but here it is nonetheless. Usti nad Ladem now may not be a large city (about 100,000) is a major industrial centre and, besides being an active river port, is an important railway junction. Not sure if the chemical plant is still there, though. Grade: 1
-
Usti nad Ladem, Strekov Castle
Unused, real-photo card. Grade: 1
-
Usti nad Ladem, Strekov, bridge
Unused old card, captioned in Czech on the back, and Google translates that as “View of the bridge and Strekov with Ferdinand’s Vysina,” which we realize is not much help. Nice card, though, a great view. Grade: 1
-
Prague, Woodrow Wilson Monument
We often need to be careful when we interpret old postcards, and here’s a case in point. Standing alone, it’s an unused sepia card captioned in four languages, very heavily aged and a small separation on the reverse upper right corner. It just says “The Wilson Monument” (in English) and someone long ago penciled “1920s” lightly on the reverse. But when we went to learn more, we came up with this online source dated 2011: “WASHINGTON, Sept. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Seventy years after its destruction by Nazi troops, a memorial statue honoring President Woodrow Wilson will return to its original location on Oct. 5 in Prague … The Wilson Monument commemorates the role that the former U.S. president played in helping the Czech people achieve independence in 1918 …” So there! Grade: 4
-
Usti nad Ladem, stary most (bridge)
Unused, clean, old, real-photo postcard. Grade: 1
-
Burgruine Schreckenstein
It’s so strange. When we Google this, expecting to learn more about the castle, we only get entries for a 2016 German family film of the same name. A little tweaking leads to many different postcards of the castle (though not ours), but almost nothing in English at least about the castle itself. So we just list the unused card, with hopes you already know all about it. Grade: 1
-
Reichenberg (Liberec), Tuchplatz
We sincerely apologise if we are getting this wrong, but there seem to be two Reichenbergs: one in Germany (the first one that appears in Google) and another in the Czech Republic, now called Liberec but using the German name Reichenberg. As far as we can tell, this and our other Reichenberg cards represent what is now Liberec. If not, would you please let us know so we can fix this? This card, old and real-photo, is unused. Grade: 1
-
Reichenberg, Rathaus (Town Hall)
Unused, real-photo vintage postcard. Grade: 1
-
Reichenberg (Liberec), Rathaus
Unused old real-photo card, showing its age significantly. Grade: 2
-
Reichenberg, Gewerbemuseum
In English, now, the North Bohemian Trade Museum, on this unused real-photo card with a small age spot on the reverse. Grade: 2
-
Státní zámek Jánský Vrch
Státní zámek Jánský Vrch, a castle located in the Jeseník District in the Olomouc Region. The castle stands on a hill above the town of Javorník in the north-western edge of Czech Silesia, an area once part of the Duchy of Nysa. This postcard was mailed in 2024, with three stamps and a “chop” indicating the card came from the castle itself. Grade: 1
