Eremo Hotel, Mt. Vesuvius
Just a beautiful evening view, made even more desirable through addition of a large postmark from Eremo on the upper front though the card itself is unmailed. Minor abrasions on edges and corners do not detract in any way from this really nice and exotic item, and if we had a category for “awesome postcards” this would be right at the top. Grade: 1
-

Rome, St. Peter’s
Yes, we know this is in Vatican City but the card (mailed in 1909 from one Iowa resident to another, with a one-cent USA stamp) attributes St. Peter’s to Rome. So we will, too. The pencilled message has all but faded away but it’s still readable. The card’s caption calls this a “magnificent pile of architecture”! Grade: 3
