Bogota, Avianca Building
Unused Fotorama postcard 0120, whose bilingual (Spanish, English) caption explains about the modern, 40-story building housing offices of “the first airline in America, with over 50 years of existence.” Given that Avianca was established in 1919 as SCADTA, this suggests the postcard is from 1969 or slightly later. The front is good; the reverse of the card is smudged quite a bit. Grade: 3
-
Bogota, Monserrate Sanctuary
Unused Fotorama card 134, notably aging but clean, with a bilingual Spanish/English caption explaining quite a bit about the location. Let’s add what Wikipedia says (abridged): “…a mountain that dominates the city center of Bogotá, rising 3,152 metres (10,341 ft) above the sea level, where there is a church (built in the 17th century) with a shrine, devoted to El Señor Caído (“The Fallen Lord”). The hill, considered sacred in pre-Columbian times when the area was inhabited by the indigenous Muisca, is a pilgrim destination, and … the summit contains restaurants many smaller tourist facilities. Monserrate can be accessed by aerial tramway, a funicular or by climbing, the preferred way of pilgrims. The climbing route, however, had been indefinitely closed due to drought, and the associated wildfires and landslides. It was reopened in 2017.” Grade: 1

Cali, Hotel Inter-Continental
The hotel is still there and gets generally good online reviews, some noting that the building is a bit old and looks tired. We could say the same for this unused Movifoto postcard 7105, noting that the card says “Inter-Continental” while the hotel sign shows “intercontinental”. Either way, you know. Grade: 1
-
Cali, Hotel Alferez Real
Unused card measuring about 3-3/4″ x 8-3/4″. As usual, we Googled to see what we could learn about the hotel, and came out of that experience knowing nothing. It may have changed its name, or may now be a Convention Centre. Regardless, it’s a nice old photo. Grade: 1
