Sacramento, Park Villa Motel
Google is extraordinarily confusing as to whether this motel is still there or not. Probably not. The postcard, unused but for someone’s written change of the phone number, suggests it was just down the road from the Beauty Rest. Grade: 3
-
Los Angeles, McHenry’s Tail o’ the Cock
Unused card, from the restaurant. Grade: 1
-
Santa Cruz, Ocean Echo Motel
This old, unused card has some quirks to it. Original printing lacked a phone number, so the proprietor wisely made a rubber stamp and put this information (unwisely) in the middle of the message space, along with her name. And if you can look closely at the photo, we really doubt those two signs were ever on the property. Anyway, Grade: 1
-
Mendocino Coast, View from MacKerricher Beach
Not a beach where we would want to put down our towel. Unused “local” card, aging. Grade: 2
-
Beverly Hills, The Residence of Mary Pickford
This is an unused, Tichnor linen card 65008. Calling it “The Residence of Mary Pickford” is like calling Windsor Palace “a big house”. Nicknamed Pickfair, after Mary and her husband Douglas Fairbanks, it was one of the most famous homes in the United States until eventually bought and demolished by one Pia Zadora. Very slight staining on the reverse. Grade: 2
-

The card was mailed in 1980, with 10-cent stamp and partial postmark, and slight staining on the reverse. Grade: 2

-
Lake Tahoe, California/Nevada
Spanning two states, Lake Tahoe postcards don’t always define the locations exactly. This one could have, but didn’t. However the buildings in the photo give a very good clue. Can you guess? We are listing the card in California and in Nevada, so as not to make any enemies! Unused card, Grade: 1

-
San Francisco, Lombard Street in June
We walked up (or down) this street a few times. Beautiful and as expensive as it is, we really wouldn’t want to live on it. Try and guess why. Kerry mailed this card in 2012 with five stamps, and four of them got cancelled. Grade: 1
-
