-
Peru, Miami County Court House
In 1944, when this card was mailed (stamp and postmark are there), collectors’ exchanges were going strong. One hopes that Mrs. W. got what she wanted from Mrs. G. Someone (probably Mrs. G.) has added a date in the address area. Grade: 3

An odd little story. The bridge was built in 1907 to cross Sunderland Creek but was moved in 1961 to the Parke County Golf Course. Unused card. Grade: 1
-
Indianapolis, Methodist Hospital
We have no real reason to doubt this is (or was) the Methodist Hospital, but the caption on the back of the card says–in its entirety–“The sources of Indianapolis’ water supply, sand filtered and purified, are White River and extensive deep wells.” Mailed in 1942 with stamp and postmark, and what seemed like pencilled forwarding instructions but we’re not sure about that, either. Grade: 3

Terre Haute, St. Mary’s College, St. Mary’s of the Woods (sic)
Quite a long message between sisters on this card mailed in 1910 with stamp and full postmark. The name of the school now–if not then–is Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. Grade: 1
-
Indianapolis, White River
Even in 1909, when this card was mailed (stamp and clear postmark there), the writer was a bit skeptical of the nature of this river. We haven’t seen it! Grade: 3
-
Greetings from Indiana
Though the specific bridges aren’t identified, at least you know what state they’re probably in. Unused Lusterchrome card K-9061 from Tichnor Bros. Grade: 2

All that’s on the back of this otherwise unused card is a large faux-handwritten (meaning: pre-printed) message: “If the U.S. Forest Service has its way, these magnificent lands in Hoosier National Forest will be left hacked & battered by timber companies’ clearcuts.” You might say technically this is not a postcard as it has no address area. Grade: 1

-
Indianapolis, Indiana State House

Indianapolis, South Grove Golf Course – Greetings
A plan announced in 2019 to close this course “within a few years” drew all sorts of reactions, not least of which was someone’s observation that “fewer people are playing golf”. Well, if golf courses close, that will definitely be the case. Unused, older Metrocraft card 44719, aging somewhat but still: Grade: 1
-
Spring Mill State Park, Munson House, Cordwainer Shop
We weren’t certain what a cordwainer was — despite the clarity of the photo — so we went to our trusty Wikipedia, which told us: “A cordwainer is a shoemaker who makes new shoes from new leather. The cordwainer’s trade can be contrasted with the cobbler’s trade, according to a tradition in Britain that restricted cobblers to repairing shoes.” So now we both know. Unused “local” card. Grade: 1

-
Connersville, Fayette National Bank
We think the successor to this bank is now FCN Bank, but the postcard is generic and gives no real clues apart from the location. But the card is iconic of its genre of bank postcards for that era, and, as you see, is clearly dated. As a bonus, it was mailed in June 1910, with stamp, postmark, and a helpful rubber stamp of where it was supposed to go. Grade: 1
-
Connersville, Fayette National Bank (October, 1909)
We’ll hand it to the bank’s managers, they were persistent (and consistent) during that year. See our entries for other months. There’s the barest minimum of an address. Times were simpler, we suppose. Grade: 1
-
Cardinal
That’s it! Mailed in 2024, with three stamps and overriding postmark. Grade: 1
