Stateline, Harrah’s Club Lake Tahoe
Bear with us while we tell you the story. The club had an offer for its customers: “Place Postage Stamp Here, or Leave at the bar or premium booth for free mailing”. Conrad decided to take them up on that offer, and sent this card to a mushroom company asking for a free book of recipes. The hotel obliged, with a postage meter, in 1959. We hope he got his book. Maybe not the most inspirational view of this famous gambling centre — and, once upon a time, for divorces too — but the card was mailed in 1986 with a 33-cent stamp, airmail sticker, postmark, and attached address label from people who aren’t there any more. Grade: 3
