Greetings from Virginia, map
Mailed in 2012, with one stamp and barely readable contemporary postmark. Minor postal battering. Grade: 2
-
Winchester, Duff’s Virginia Hams
Hmm … we did a spot check of other vendors selling this card, and they want much more for it than we do. So now’s your chance. Unused card, Grade: 1
-
Fort Monroe, Old Point Comfort Lighthouse
Unused card of a lighthouse built in 1802. Grade: 1
-
Cape Henry, New and Old Light Houses
Mailed in 1908 with stamp and Portsmouth postmark, would be much nicer if two corners weren’t missing. Grade: 4
-
Haysi, John Flannigan Dam
We look at the photo on this unused Dexter Press card 19975-C but apart from the tower on the right we are struggling to see the dam. It must be there. The caption says so. Grade: 1
-
The Washington Tomb at Mount Vernon
Unused “local” card, beginning to age and mottle on the reverse. Grade: 3
-
Staunton, Woodrow Wilson Birthplace
This unused Tichnor Lusterchrome card K-5426 is just barely old enough that persons of the time would have been more familiar with President Wilson than they are now–so the caption doesn’t say too much. Grade: 1 (WE MUST VERIFY AVAILABILITY)
-
The Fall of Richmond, Virginia
This is a Currier and Ives lithograph of the April, 1865 U.S. Civil War event. The card is not so old, of course, being mailed in 2013 with stamp and unusually clear postmark. Some minor USPS processing abrasion on the back, and faint orange barcoding on the front. Grade: 3

-
Arlington, The Pentagon
There’s no shortage of Pentagon postcards, but the Smithsonian–which should know better, we think–loudly captions this as being in Washington, DC, when of course it is across the Potomac River in Arlington. Oh, well. Mailed in 2013 with five different stamps (two of them uncancelled) and full postmark. Perforated left edge suggests it came out of a book. Grade: 2
