-

Unused Capsco card K-8126. Probably early 1960s. Grade: 1
-
Balcony Falls on James River
Unused and old. Grade: 1
-
Newport News – James River Bridge
In 1951, Myrtle mailed this card to enter a TV contest. Stamp and postmark are there, but no indication whether she won or not. Probably not, as her slogan was a bit gloomy. Postmark transfer on the front. Grade: 3
-
Richmond, Philip Morris Operations Center
Not postally used, but we must explain that the person who got this card originally must have taken the factory tour and–at that time–received a sticky label to identify them along the tour. At the end, (s)he stuck that label onto the back of the card. This was in 1978. Does it help or hurt the card? Up to you. Grade: 4
-
Mount Vernon, Home of George Washington
We have before referred to how similar cards from this angle can be. Here’s yet another version. Unused View Gram card BSS 120 (1355). Grade: 1
-
Main Hall, Mt. Vernon Mansion
Very old, unused yet heavily handled Leet Brothers card R-22580. Grade: 3
-
Stratford, Birthplace of Gen. Robert E. Lee in Westmoreland County
We didn’t really expect it when the caption on this unused Asheville Post Card Co. card E-12718 began with “Southern Hospitality begins at Hillcrest Grill, U.S. 301, Owens, Va. Eat here and visit …” It seems the Grill is gone; presumably Stratford lives on. Grade: 1
-
Williamsburg, Cabinetmaker’s Shop
Unused, “Official Colonial Williamsburg Card” yet with four major stains on the reverse corners. Grade: 5
-
Williamsburg, Paradise House
It’s now called the Ludwell-Paradise House, built in 1755 and still (according to internet sources) a private residence. Unused Tichnor Bros. card 67933. Grade: 2
-
Williamsburg, Gardens and The Royal Governor’s Palace
Unused Tichnor Bros. linen card 64508. Grade: 1
-

Unused Asheville Post Card Co. card E-10445. Grade: 1
-
Richmond, Houdon’s Statue of Washington (State Capitol)
A very old, unused card from the “Beautiful and Historical Richmond Va. Series” #45447. The long caption has a lot of detail in a small space, including this: “…one of the most priceless pieces of marble in the world”. Aged but clean. Grade: 1
-
Roanoke, Pet Deer at Children’s Zoo on Mill Mountain
Just when we thought we had seen everything on a postcard, we have this little girl with her arm in a sling. Let’s hope the “Pet Deer” didn’t get too frisky. The zoo opened in 1952 (so the unused card must have been shortly after that) and is still there. Grade: 2
-
Looking South from White Top Mountain
Unused linen-style card 42126. It says the mountain’s altitude is 5678 feet. Wikipedia says “5520+” feet. We suppose that’s what the “+” is for. Grade: 2
-
Williamsburg, The Barber and Peruke Maker’s Shop
Unused Curteich-Chicago linen card 2B-H76. Wondering what a peruke is? Look no further: a wig, especially one with long hair on the sides and back, worn mainly by men in the 17th and 18th centuries. (That’s about right for Williamsburg.) Grade: 1
-
The S.S. Princess Anne Ferry Boat
… between Cape Charles and Norfolk, Virginia. Unused but heavily aged linen card with slight staining on the reverse. Grade: 3
-
Williamsburg, The Governor’s Palace Stables
Official Colonial Williamsburg card 3251, unused, by H.S. Crocker. Grade: 1
-
Jamestown, street and John Smith statue
Unused card would be perfect were it not for an abrasion under the “ES” in Jamestown. It’s not visible in the scan, but it is on the card. Grade: 4
-
Richmond, Liggett & Myers’ Factory
Unused, promotional Plastichrome card P15887 inviting you for a “fascinating tour, conducted by attractive hostesses”. Much as we’d like to, there will be no further comment. Except one: fascinating postcard! Grade: 1
-
Virginia Beach, You’ll Flip Over
“A playground for all to share” on this unused card. Grade: 1
-
Wallops Island Flight Facility
Antares Rocky Liftoff, on this card mailed in 2020 with round Global Forever stamp and postmark. Grade: 1
-
Abingdon, Stuckey’s Pecan Shoppe
We have the memory, of what seems like 1000 years ago in a different universe, of a road trip where we stopped at a Stuckey’s outlet — not this one — and got our first taste of pralines. The extreme sweetness lingers to this day, and we wonder whether we could or should ever try those again. Probably not going to happen, but here’s the old and unused Dexter Press card 76919 to remind us. Grade: 1
-
Charlottesville, Monroe Home
The caption in this unused Tuck’s Post Card “In Old Virginia” series 2567 might not be clear, but this view of Ashlawn, President James Monroe’s home at least for awhile, shows a pine tree he planted. It seems the house, now called Highland, is now there as a museum but we’re not certain about the pine tree. A great card for collectors of presidential ephemera. Grade: 1
-
Williamsburg, Courthouse of 1770
Mailed in 1957 from Williamsburg, with stamp and postmark, the Courthouse itself served until 1932 and has plenty of history attached to it. Grade: 1
-
Roanoke, Memorial and Crippled Children’s Hospital
Unused old linen-style card, oddly printed on both sides but otherwise in excellent shape. Grade: 1
-
Blue Ridge Parkway from Sharp Tooth
Unused, aging Plastichrome card P9345. We’re not really able to summarize the caption, so, exceptionally, we’ll give you most of it: ” ..view of the Blue Ridge Parkway is seen from the top of Sharp Tooth, one of the peaks of Otter. The Parkway … is winding in a southwestern direction, with Roanoke in the far distance.” Someone did their homework. Grade: 2
-
Mt. Vernon, Washington’s Mansion
Unused, old linen Curteich-Chicago card 8A-H3041. The caption says Washington died in the second-story room with the end window, but doesn’t say which end. All we know is that he met his end. Grade: 1
-
Mount Vernon, The West Parlor
Official card 170504 from the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association of the Union, featuring Martha Washington’s Chinese export tea service in the foreground. Grade: 1
-
Mount Vernon, East Front
Nice, clear view of the mansion in this unused “local” postcard PE-102. Grade: 1
-
Mount Vernon, Family Dining Room
Unused Curteich-Chicago linen card 1B-H1269. We look at this scene and can’t help wondering what the Washington family talked about around the dinner table. Grade: 1
-
Williamsburg, Palace Gates
Decorative wrought iron gates at the entrance to the Governor’s Palace. Unused card, Grade: 1
-
Williamsburg, Supper Room, Governor’s Palace
Unused “Official Colonial Williamsburg Card” 513. Grade: 1
-
Williamsburg, Royal Governor Dismisses the Virginia House of Burgesses
If we didn’t tell you this unused “Official Colonial Williamsburg Card” 546 had two thumbtack holes in opposite corners, you might not even see them — at first. But we want you to know things like that before you buy. This is actually a scene from a film. Grade: 5
-
Salt Petre Cave, natural bridge
This unused Tichnor Bros. Lusterchrome card K-7792 has a sparse caption that only mentions Virginia, so we dug deeper (sorry!) and everything Google turned up was in Kentucky. Adding “Virginia” to the search bar only informed us that Virginia has many such caves — so we can assume that the caption writer, like us, just gave up. Nice card, though. Grade: 1
-
Jamestown, church and graveyard
The caption on this unused card 1A2341 published by The Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities, in Richmond, packs a lot of information about this scene into a small space. Grade: 1
