We have two of these. The front of the first, unmailed card, dated 1957, is OK. The reverse is a mess of handwriting and rubber stamp marks (Grade: 4, $0.50). The second one is also unmailed and unmarked except for a 1980 date written above the caption (Grade: 3, $1).

Stockholm, Mississippi River
This card was constructed from a normal photo and blank reverse, onto which a seven-line caption was rubber-stamped. Then the card was mailed, in 1990, with full Stockholm (WI) postmark and 36-cent Sikorsky airmail stamp. There is some staining on the front upper left corner. Grade: 3

We can find a couple of references to this card through Google; we just can’t find it for sale anywhere else. Full details: V.O. Hammon Publishing Co. (Chicago) card 810, unused, and very old. It’s held up well generally. There is a crease through the left side. Grade: 3

Madison, Mid-View Apartment Motel
Two of these unused linen cards are available. Each has a travel agent’s rubber stamp on the reverse. The front of one is perfect (Grade: 4, $6.00) while the front of the other has an X below the room the original owner must have stayed in (Grade: 4, $2). The motel itself? Long gone.

Tomah, Pleasant Acres Court
Google says this motel is still there. We hope it looks different now, because, honestly and with no malice at all, this has to be one of the bleakest postcards ever made. Two of these unmailed cards are available, identical conditions. Each has an X over the room the writer used, and the reverse has the dates of stay (in 1957) along with a travel agency rubber stamp. Just out of principle we give this a low grade but if you buy the card you will have a great addition to your collection of most unappealing views. Grades: 5
