  • Zhejiang Provincial Museum, artist, set #1 (set of 10) (PR China)

We shamefully admit our research resources sometimes vanish while we enter cards, and this is one such case.  If you read Chinese, there’s an extensive story on the back cover of the set, to explain everything.  We have two similar but not identical sets available (see also our entry 30400486), with one focusing on “chops” and the other on art and calligraphy.  Scan #30400485 shows the front of the cover (lower left) and two sample cards from the set of 10–all unused.  Scan #30400486 does the same for the other set.  Cost is per set.  Take both for $20.  Grades: 1

  • Historical Remains of Kaesong (set of 26) (DPR Korea)

If you’ve been wanting a set of DPRK cards, may as well go for a BIG set.  These 26, in a loose coloured cover (bottom right of scan), are nearly unique in having western lettering along with Korean on the fronts of the cards.  We show three of the 26 in the scan, though the captions are hard to make out.  These are buildings, statues, natural features, a mausoleum, Jokjosa Soibucho, all sorts of things, and at a cost much lower than most of our individual DPRK cards.  Grade: 1

The title of this set of eight Maximum Cards is so long, it wouldn’t all fit into the header.  The subtitle therefore is:  Immortal Blossoms of an Eternal Spring (I).  The front of the cardboard cover appears at the bottom of the scan, and two of the eight cards above.  If you want to see the others, please ask us.  Grade: 1

  • Shanghai Propaganda Poster Cards (group of 17) – horizontal layout (PR China)

We don’t know how many cards were originally here, but they are unused and clean reproductions of old posters reminiscent of what DPR Korea still issues.  So we’re calling this a “group of 17” and not a “set of 17”.  This entry 30400502A shows four typical examples in horizontal layout; entry (B) shows four more, vertical.  If you want to see them all, let us know.  Grade: 1

  • Berat, Epitaphe de Gllavenice (Albania)

Looks like just another ancient artwork but when we go to Wikipedia (slightly abridged version):  “The Epitaph of Gllavenica is a 14th-century epitaph, written on a shroud made of silk, linen and gold, symboliz(ing) the burial cloth of Christ, used in Orthodox Good Friday’s processions.  The Epitaph represents the dead Christ lying on a linen, Saint Mary, John, other Four Evangelists, prophets and angels with spread wings. It was commissioned by the Albanian ruler Gjergj Arianiti in 1373.In 1994, the shroud was stolen from the National Historical Museum of Albania in Tirana.  In 2005 an international symposium assessed that the shroud should be restaured for the amount of 25-50k Euros because it risks to be irreparably deteriorated and damaged from the lights of the Albanian National Museum.”  So it was stolen and then found?  In any event, this is an older card predating that “theft”.  Unused.  Grade: 1
