Wintertime, with Mingus Mountain in the background. This Bob Bradshaw S-31513-1 card was mailed in 1996, has a 4-cent stamp and nearly full postmark. A bit of postmark smudging on the front. Grade: 3

Mailed in 1994, with two stamps and readable Phoenix postmark. The address is on a separate sticker, and there are some abrasions on the back. The front has some faint pink post office imprints that almost look like they are part of the scenery. Grade: 3

Mt. Baldy and Continental Trailways (California)
This card started life issued by Continental Trailways, possibly in the 50s, then was mailed in 1974 (stamp intact and postmark largely so) after being discovered in Arizona. A bit of postmark smudging on front but in this case it just adds to the character. Grade: 2

Long’s Peak, Estes Park (Colorado)
Written for mailing in 1976, but never sent. Serrated edges. Front is good; reverse is heavily smudged as if this card had stuck to the card below it. Grade: 4

Die Loreley (Germany)
The Lorelei, spelled Loreley in German, is a 132-metre-high (433 ft), steep slate rock on the right bank of the River Rhine at Sankt Goarshausen, part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 1930s Loreley Amphitheatre is on top of the rock. We can’t quite make out from the postmark when this card was mailed with its two stamps — but it was, and we have it now. Some creasing on lower left corner. Grade: 2

Hallett Peak (Colorado)
This Flatiron Postcard #47 was mailed internationally in the 1980s and has a 33-cent stamp, but no postmark. A little bit of edge abrasion and creasing but the photo is nice and sort of makes you want to be there. Grade: 3

Făgăraș Mountains (Romania)
The Făgăraș Mountains (Romanian: Munții Făgărașului) are the highest mountains of the Southern Carpathians, bordered in the north by the Făgăraș Depression, through which the Olt River flows, and in the west by the Olt Valley. Despite its name, Făgăraș, located 20 km (12 mi) to the north, is not the nearest town to the mountain range, which has no major settlements. Glacier lakes in the area include Bâlea (2,034 m, 46,508 m², 11.35 m deep), the largest. The highest lake is in the Hărtopul Leaotei glacial valley. The deepest glacial lake is Podragu (2,140 m, 28,550 m²; 15.5 m deep). Other lakes are Urlea (2,170 m, 20,150 m²) and Capra (2,230 m, 18,340 m²), but of all these, it’s Bâlea and Capra appearing on the unused postcard — along with Călțun. In its own way, the card manages to highlight all of this. Grade: 1

Rucăr-Bran Corridor and Bucegi Mountains (Romania)
The Rucăr-Bran Pass (corridor) is a mountain pass in Romania, linking the counties of Brașov and Argeș. It has spectacular natural views, looking over the Bucegi Mountains of the Southern Carpathians. This unused card gives you an idea of that. Grade: 1

Unused Curteichcolor card 2DK-296 (370), whose caption — then — said it rises 4,892′ above the valley floor, while Wikipedia — now — says it rises “more than 4,737′”. So, technically, both figures could be true. (Think about it!) Grade: 1

Actual caption: Long’s Peak and Lake Mills, Rocky Mountain National Park. Typical view, which we see from our perspective as “no smog.” Sanborn Souvenir card R-180 – 14828-D was mailed from Denver (full postmark) to Hong Kong in 1983 with two 20-cent stamps. The card has serrated edges and begins to show age. Grade: 2

Kyoto, Mt. Arashi-yama (Japan)
Arashiyama (嵐山, Storm Mountain) is a district on the western outskirts of Kyoto, and also refers to the mountain across the Ōi River, which forms a backdrop to the district. Arashiyama is a nationally designated Historic Site. This is an old, unused, B&W postcard. Grade: 1

Caption tells us the Navajos revere this landmark as Tse Bida hi, or “Winged Rock.” Card was mailed from Denver in 1998 with a Jacqueline Cochran 50-cent airmail stamp and all sorts of postmarks on the back. Some abrasions around the edges. Grade: 3

With the information on the card, we did our best to research this through Google, with no success. If you don’t know the story of Mt. St. Helens and what happened in 1980, you might want to check. This is an unused Robbins-Tillquist card #1619 (and #24288 for the Northern Pacific Railway Co.) and apparently not a common card at all. Grade: 2

This card of Emerald Lake was mailed in Malaysia (not Canada!) in 1986. Stamp is intact and postmark is legible. Apart from aging, card is otherwise in OK condition. Grade: 3

Mt. Qomolangma (Everest) (Tibet)
As they say, the mountains don’t move. Two of these cards from the 1970s are available, and they could as well be from the 1170s but they are unused and identify Qomolangma (many call it Mt. Everest) as the world’s highest peak. Of course, these cards are from a Chinese perspective. Grades: 2

We don’t suspect–we know that some of you out there specialize in cards of Fuji-san and are watching snow levels, foliage, urban development, everything. Here’s one more card for you. It was mailed in Malaysia (not Japan) in 1986 with Malaysian stamp but no legible postmark. Grade: 3

Another of these cards with huge white borders. This one was mailed from Malaysia (not Japan) in 1991, and has the Malaysian stamp and full postmark. The card is aging and has minor postmark smudging on the front. By the way, as it’s sunrise, we hope it’s morning. Grade: 3
