Tonle Sap (Cambodia)
When you fly into Siem Reap over this gigantic lake, you will be beset with several thoughts: How can people live in that? Will it ever end? Is the airport going to be in the middle of it? The cascading view is almost beyond description, but you forget all about it when you are then in the midst of all those temples. Unused card. Grade: 1
-
San Francisco, Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 43 Harbor Tours
Unused Dexter Press card 38397-B, no extra writing but heavily aged and only good as space filler. Grade: 5
-
A Junk in Hong Kong Waterfront
This wonderful view was mailed through British Forces Air Mail using two English stamps in 1967. The card itself was published by Japan Air Lines and went to Singapore. So it has a huge international aura to it. By the way, we are here in Hong Kong now and miss scenes like this, but such junks are long gone. Grade: 1
-
Homeward Bound Junks at sundown (Hong Kong)
Unused, serrated edges, and very, very heavily browned with age on the reverse. Grade: 4
-
Tai Pak floating restaurant (Hong Kong)
The restaurant was established in 1952 and, maybe unaccountably, is still there as part of a complex. There were more, but restaurants come and restaurants go. Tai Pak was featured in the 1955 film Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing and also in 1973’s Enter the Dragon. Unused but heavily aged card. Grade: 3
-
Boats on the river (Bangladesh)
There’s no specific caption on this unused card. Grade: 1
-
Star Ferry (Hong Kong)
From a series of unused cards that don’t have captions. Because we live here in Hong Kong, we have filled in some of the gaps to let you know where the pictures were taken. This is on board one of the few remaining Star Ferry vessels moving back and forth between Hong Kong Island and the mainland (Kowloon). Grade: 1
-
Oran, Depart du Courrier de France (Algeria)
Unused but aging real-photo card #42 from C.A.P. (Paris). Grade: 2
-
Walt Disney World, Paddle Wheel Steam Boat (Florida, USA)
Among Florida postcards, those from Disney World take a larger-than-life share. Here’s an official Disney card HSC-609-L (PC709), near Tom Sawyer’s Island, unused except for a small black X inked into the lower right reverse corner. One perforated edge, so this had been part of a set. Grade: 3
-
Tai O, Lantau Island (Hong Kong)
Two of these unused cards are available. Grades: 1
-
Dubrovnik (Croatia)
Unused card 22910. Grade: 1
-

Three of these larger (approx. 6″x 6-1/4″) cards are available. Two are unused (Grades: 1, $3). One was mailed in 2018 with large stamp and postmark, very minor postal bumping on one corner (Grade: 1, $5).
-
Herceg Novi (Montenegro)
Unused card, one of many where we think a bit more captioning would be nice. Grade: 1
-
Herceg Novi, Montenegro
Unused. Grade: 1
-
Kotor (Montenegro)
A reminder of your cruise holiday to this exotic destination. Or, maybe, an incentive for you to go. Unused. Grade: 1
-

At Skadar Lake, a normal scene rendered nicely on this unused card. Grade: 1
-
Rijeka Crnojevica (Montenegro)
Unused card of a quiet scene. Grade: 1
-
Skadar Lake, Virpazar (Montenegro)
We visited. What you see here is basically what you get, though the card doesn’t show rows of stalls selling small boat tours of the lakeshore. It also doesn’t show the small restaurant where we had one of the best pizza and wine combos ever. Unused card. Grade: 1

S/S Suecia — S/S Britannia
An online source says: “The Britannia and Suecia (both 4,661 grt, 376 ft. long) were both launched in 1929 and in service with Swedish Lloyd 1929-1966. They were bought by Hellenic Mediterranean Lines
and renamed Cynthia and Isthmia. They were scrapped in 1973 and 1972 respectively.” Now this unused card was issued by Swedish Lloyd, and clearly shows just one ship. How much we would enjoy knowing the logic behind that. In any case, Grade: 1 -
Ontario, Dragon Boat Races (Canada)
Held in Toronto, and commemorated on a card mailed in 2024 with three different stamps, postmarked. Grade: 1
-
Star Cruises (Hong Kong Harbour)
Brilliant, unused, 5-1/4″ x 7″ card showing Victoria Harbour and a Star Cruises ship, among many other things — including, most rarely for a postcard, the building where we live. A shame we cannot see the harbour as clearly as the postcard sees us. Grade: 1
-
En route pour GANVIE (Benin)
Mailed in 1993, with stamp and very clear postmark, and aging well beyond its years, we wish we had more cards like this to offer. Grade: 3+
-
The grand view of Hong Kong Harbour
Same as our entry 32400452, except this one was mailed in 2018 with three different stamps and a large, clear philatelic postmark. Grade: 1
-

From a series of unused cards issued by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. The card calls Tai O “The Venice of Hong Kong.” Maybe, but they need to see Venice first. Grade: 1
-

Unused card showing the Holdfast Shores Marina, a tram, and the HMS Buffalo Restaurant. Grade: 1
-
Mu Koh Chang National Park (Thailand)
Mailed in 2019 with three different stamps, two full postmarks, and one blue Airmail label, and captioned in Thai and English. The specific scene is Koh Man Nai, and Mu Koh Chang National Park is in Trat. Altogether, the iconic contemporary Thailand postcard. Grade: 1
-
Sarawak River, sampan and State Mosque (East Malaysia)
Unused, aging 5″ x 7″ card SHC/PC/112 from Sabah Handicraft Centre, with this Sarawak River scene, ca. 1993. Grade: 1
-
Sineokaya Vodka (Belarus)
On the front, this looks like a nicely designed card for a place. But Belarus Sineokaya is a well-known vodka, from Brest, and the reverse of the card bears an English-language logo and looks quite official. If we had any right here, right now, we would try it. Five unused cards are available. Grades: 1
-
Portloe, Roseland, Cornwall (England)
Forgive us if we don’t have those place names in the correct order. A fairly old postcard, year undetermined, with its stamp and airmail sticker. Otherwise, in good condition. Grade: 1
-
Port, Durresit (Albania)
The front of this old card is faded, but clear enough. The reverse, not as good: a 1974 New Year’s greeting, many stains, missing stamp, and so on. Maybe it should be grade 5 but because of the distinctive photo, we assign Grade: 4
-
Metamorfosi Halkidiki (Greece)
Unused. Grade: 1
-
Gedser Færgehavn (Denmark)
The good things: mailed in 1970, and two stamps and postmark are there. The photo on the front is clear and undamaged. BUT … the card is too heavily aged, and with abrasions through the caption and elsewhere. Grade: 5
-
Shrimp and Oyster Industry, Biloxi (Mississippi, USA)
Unused. Aged appropriately. Grade: 1
-

-

-
Rüdesheim am Rhein (Germany)
Mailed in 2020, the front of this card — showing a German winemaking town that’s part of a UNESCO Heritage area — is good. The reverse however is a jumble of stickers, stamp, labels, and extra notations that make it impossible to grade higher than: Grade: 4
-
Postcards from Romania by Eugen Mihai (set of 10)
The ten glossy, unused cards in this set produced by Romanian military photographer Eugen Mihai are all shown on its paper cover. Each postcard has a complete and informative bilingual (English/Romanian) caption and represents one or another of a variety of scenes around the country — including a fortress, IAR 99 Standard military jet trainers, TR-85 M1 battle tank, Bucharest’s Palace of Parliament, Castelui Peles (Sinaia), the training ship “Mircea”, night view from Bucharest’s North Railway Station, Horezu Monastery, The Gate of the Kiss, and Hunyadi Castle. This great set came to us via our friend Tatiana, and — given the special circumstances of the cards’ production — if you read this and want to order directly from Mr. Mihai, we’ll tell you how to do that. Or, of course, this set from us. Grade: 1
-
Constanta (Romania)
Mailed in 2021 with large stamp and two partial postmarks, this 7-1/4″ x 4-5/8″ card also has a small “All the best from Bucharest” sticker on the back. Grade: 3
