It happens sometimes, that we get two cards with the same photo on the front, but different captions (and publishers, and index numbers) on the reverse. So, here we have two unused cards, one from Nelson Jones (#30185) and one from Marquart Photo Service (#29951). The captions are completely different, except that each credits the same photographer. Nelson Jones has some visible abrasion on the reverse. Grades: 3

Chief’s grave (Fort Riley, Kansas, USA)
Unused Donna Brinkman card 108162. Some explanation: the monument was dedicated in 1961 and honors the U.S. Cavalry. The grave, however, is that of Chief, the horse foaled in 1932, died 1968, and the last cavalry mount on U.S. Army rolls. Whew. Grade: 2

The other has the same photo, squared corners, reference number 11986-B H-2 (it’s the slightly newer card), but is heavily aged on the reverse (Grade: 3, $1). Your choice!

Grant’s Tomb, New York City
If you are American, and of a certain age, you will remember the old quiz show consolation question, “Who’s buried in Grant’s Tomb?” If not, you’ll just want to buy this card. (Hint: President Ulysses S. Grant). Curteich-Chicago linen card 1B-H2408 was mailed in 1944. The stamp and postmark are there and undamaged. There is a section on the right reverse that looks like it got caught in a cancellation machine but this does not affect the front of the card. Grade: 4
