Called “Gulf Fun Cards,” these are among postcard collecting’s little hidden gems. You’re on holiday, you stop to fill up the tank, you pick up one of these cards marked with the name of the gas station, and you follow the instructions on the back: “Save time and effort, just check the things you’re enjoying, and mail.” Alas, somehow, nobody mailed this unused card. Put Me Amongst the Girls
Bear with us, there’s a story here! This old card was mailed from Bolckow, Missouri to Barnard, Missouri in 1909, from a man to a young lady. The message at first looked to be in some language we don’t know. Slavic? German? Martian? But as we went to enter this card into the site, we looked again–and there’s a secret to it. Stamp and postmark are there, the message is cute, and the card is worth the price. (You can ask!) Grade: 1
