Dogs (set of five) (Maximum Cards) (DPR Korea)
Excuse us while we say more than usual here. First, this is a set of five unused maximum cards from 1994. The postmarks are very faint, basically illegible. Our scan shows four of the five cards; the fifth is of a group of five dogs sitting and looking like they are dozing in the sun. Four of the five cards are captioned “dog” in Korean and English. The fifth card–which is the one on the lower right side of the scan–is captioned “Phungsan dog” (풍 산 개) in addition, possibly to compensate for the gory scene taking place. Phungsan translates as “wind mountain”, and as a side note, the sound for “wind” seems to be the same in Cantonese and Korean. Enough! Grade: 1
-

Tom Crean and pups (South Georgia Island)
With thanks to Wikipedia, we can tell you: “Thomas “Tom” Crean (20th July 1877 – 27 July 1938), was an Irish seaman and Antarctic explorer from Annascaul in County Kerry. He was a member of three major expeditions to Antarctica during the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration, including Captain Scott’s 1911–13 Terra Nova Expedition. This saw the race to reach the South Pole lost to Roald Amundsen and ended in the deaths of Scott and his polar party. During this expedition, Crean’s 35 statute miles (56 km) solo walk across the Ross Ice Shelf to save the life of Edward Evans led to him receiving the Albert Medal for Lifesaving.” And here he is, on an unused postcard, designed as a stamp. Përshëndetje nga Kosova (Greetings from Kosovo) – Sharr Dog
We sometimes observe that one postcard fits many of our theme categories. This is one of those. Bilingual Albanian/English captions identify Kosovo National Park “Sharr Mountains”, Brezna Lake close Koritnik Mountain; Marble Cave (Lipjan); Mirusha Waterfall (Llapusha); Badovc Lake (Prishtina); National Park “Accursed Mountains”; Kucishta Lake; and a Sharr dog in the center. That should keep the search engines busy. Unused. Grade: 1

Cinnamoroll (set of 30)
What to do with this … not really manga, not simply art, here is an edited description from Sanrio, who created him and Hello Kitty: “Cinnamoroll (シナモロール) was born on March 6, on a cloud far up in the sky. He is a small, shy and chubby dog with white fur, blue eyes, pink cheeks, a plump and curly tail that resembles a cinnamon roll (hence his name), and long ears that enable him to fly. Cinnamon is shy but friendly, works at Café Cinnamon, and sometimes sleeps on customers laps. Cinnamon’s favorite food is warm, fresh cinnamon rolls. Cinnamon was deemed the most popular Sanrio character in 2020 – 2023, winning first place in the Sanrio Character Ranking. The story of Cinnamoroll begins when he is noticed floating through the sky and subsequently lands near a café. The owner of the café discovers him and, inspired by the cinnamon rolls the café sells, names him Cinnamoroll. He soon becomes the café’s official mascot. This character is depicted living in a peaceful, whimsical world where he embarks on various adventures with his friends Chiffon, Mocha, Espresso, Cappuccino, and Little Milk.” This set of 30 cards, still in its original wrapping, came from China and includes smaller share cards and stickers as well. It’s in a similar style to many of our later entries in the Manga theme category. To conclude this long description, Grade: 1
