Chinese New Year, Hong Kong
Oversized (5″x 7″) card mailed in 1996, with stamp and postmark. A little battered around the edges but an interesting photo because it shows fireworks disappearing into the ever-present clouds. Grade: 3

Unused 5-1/2″ x 7″ card 002 with that header caption from the Tourists Cards series (Grade: 1, $4) and another with the same photo but a slightly different caption: “Fire Cracker Night at Victoria Harbour” (Grade: 1, $4).

Love River, Kaohsiung (Taiwan)
This card was mailed in 2010. It has one perforated edge (from being in a set), a nicely political stamp, and full postmark. By the way, the Love River has an interesting history. Grade: 1

Gateway Arch, St. Louis (Missouri, USA)
Mailed in 1967, this card has two perforated edges indicating that it was part of a linked series. Postmark is there but obscured by the caption, and the stamp is partly torn. But the front is OK, and the Arch was fairly new at that time. Grade: 4

Pattaya (Thailand)
People tend either to love or hate this seaside resort town. We are on one of those sides. Card is unused, from 1980s, but in excellent shape. Grade: 1

Two of these unwrapped, unused, and somewhat handled folios are available. The photo here shows the back cover and therefore the ten cards (including two with fireworks)connected by a perforated edge inside. Each card has bilingual Chinese and English captions. Grades: 2

We think this is a homemade card. The front lamination is bubbling a bit in the centre. Regardless, it was mailed from Taiwan in 2011 and has the stamp and Taipei postmark. Grade: 3

Kanchanaburi, The River Kwai Bridge (Thailand)
The reality and the legend of this famous bridge may be fading, but cards like this will help it live on. Visart postcard TC 683, mailed from Thailand with three large and different stamps, and three postmarks. Grade: 1

Above the Central Plaza, Hong Kong
Not just above Central Plaza (as the caption states) but above the Convention Centre and all of Wanchai. This 5-1/8″ x 7″ card was mailed from Victoria Peak in 2008 and has a special Peak Post Office postmark, along with an embossed jellyfish stamp. Grade: 2

Night of the Feast, Rapallo (Italy)
The printed caption only says “Night of Feast” but the card’s writer explains that this takes place on 1-3 July in honour of Rapallo’s Patron Saint. Mailed in 2011 with two uncancelled stamps costing E1.6 — thereby almost covering the cost of the card. Grade: 3

A set of ten unused cards, in glossy cover, all very high quality, and showing (among others): a night scene, Nan Van at night and day, Venetian Macao Resort (and casino), Macau Tower and Sai Van Bridge, St. Paul’s, and Senado Square. And, yes, it’s the cards themselves that use these variant spellings of Macau. Grade: 1

Sydney fireworks (Australia) (Maximum Card)
What a card … the stamp on the front has a hologram (of course, with fireworks, and the year 1999) corresponding to this First Day of Issue postmark (1 November 1999). Then, on the back, Australia Post’s “Postage pre-paid Australia for posting in Australia and delivery worldwide”. Mailed in 2012–please note that. There’s no postmark apart from the original First Day mark on the front. The sender’s name and address are rubber-stamped on the reverse. Grade: 2

Dubai, Opening Celebration of Burj Khalifa
As we type this, Hong Kong has five of the world’s 21 tallest buildings, and Burj Khalifa in Dubai is almost exactly twice the height of the tallest one (ICC) in Hong Kong. We look out the window at ICC and wonder, how could Dubai manage this? But of course, they did! Unused card. Grade: 1
