-
Hierarchy of Fish (USA)
As the cliche goes, you don’t need to be from Minnesota to appreciate this, but it helps. Officially “The Minnesota Fisherman’s Hierarchy of Fish,” if you can spot the odd one out, you are officially in the club. Two of these unused cards are available. Grade: 1
-
The Fishin’s Good, Bob’s Sport Chalet (Minnesota, USA)
We said not many of Bob’s customers would write postcards. We didn’t say none. This card was mailed from St. Paul–far from Bob’s–in 1983 and is aging heavily. It has a legible St. Paul postmark and a 28-cent Scott airmail stamp that is abraded. Grade: 4
-
Ice fishing on a lake (Minnesota, USA)
A card from Bob’s, one of the most authentic bait-and-tackle shops in Minnesota, mailed in 1983. St. Paul postmark, 28-cent Scott stamp, a little bit of corner creasing during transit. Grade: 2
-
The kind we catch (Canada)
Real or not, the fish is impressive. And it probably is real. Maybe!! Card mailed in 1954 with a stamp and legible postmarks, as well as a rubber stamp from a travel agency on reverse. Serrated edges, some corner creasing. Grade: 4
-

Not a beautiful card but typical in its viewpoint. Mailed in Selangor in 1991 with stamp and nearly complete postmark. Grade: 2
-

More artistic than informative. Unused card. Grade: 1
-

This used card was stamped for mailing, but there’s no postmark. Grade: 2

-

Two cards are available, from early 90s, each Grade 3.

-

This unused real photo card has faded badly. You can’t see detail in this photo but the card itself is somewhat clearer. And, yes, we know whales are not fish. But where else to put this? Grade: 4
-
Boys of Winter (Minnesota)
Unused card from 2008, amusing but not comical in the Minnesota context! Grade: 1
-
Fisherman’s Wharf (San Francisco)
This 1958 view seems oddly uncommercial. A Mike Roberts card (C4240), it is unmailed. One front corner has a small abrasion, and the reverse has a travel agent’s black rubber stamp. Grade: 4
-
Fisherman’s Wharf (San Francisco)
It might be great fun to start a specialised collection of Fisherman’s Wharf cards, tracing from what it was to what it is now. This unused linen entry from Nature Tone Views, Scenic View Card Co., #43672 and #27, goes back to the 40s or earlier and refers to the “gay, colorful fishing boats.” Umm…, aged but in good shape otherwise. Grade: 2
-

-
Fishing boat (Malaysia)
This 5″ x 7″ card was mailed in 1991 with a Terengganu stamp and full if very faint postmark. There is a pinhole through the lower left corner. While not the only time this happens, it’s a sort of oddity that there are two different yet official spellings of “Trengganu” in the stamp and the postmark. Grade: 4
-
Fishing village, Georgetown (Malaysia)
Mailed in 1991 with Kedah stamp and illegible but heavy postmark. Grade: 2

All that notwithstanding, the card is in good shape (Grade: 1, $3). The other one is unused (Grade: 1, $3).
