Views from Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, and Donetsk. Two of these are available, in identical conditions, with three stamps and two postmarks. One was mailed in 2013, the other in 2014. The Olympic National Sports Complex takes pride of place. Grades: 1

We like postcards of quirky things like this, somewhat more than we do of mountains and beaches — but don’t hold that against us. Frank Stoeber started this in 1953, and as far as we know, Cawker City is still at it. Unused. Grade: 1

Chicago, Congress Hotel (USA)
Now the Congress Plaza Hotel (as of 1908!), the 1893 building is still there and rumoured to be Chicago’s most haunted–in particular, by Al Capone. Now there’s a story for you. The card was mailed in 1913, with stamp and full postmark. A hotel postcard collector’s gem. Grade: 3

Ethan Allen Tower, Burlington (Vermont, USA)
With the perforated lower edge, this card came from a set. Many years ago, someone planned to write the card to the Whites in Durham, got the address on there and started the message. What happened then? We’ll never know. Grade: 4
