Greetings from Monrovia, Liberia
John Hinde card from the mid-1970s, showing the Executive Mansion and the Mesurado River. Mailed in 1975 with a massive Copernicus anniversary stamp and nearly full Monrovia postmark. This card was made before things got really tough. Which they did. Grade: 2
-
Welcome to Tombouctou (Timbuktu)
To western eyes it is hard to imagine anything more exotic than this mid-1960s postcard. It was mailed from Timbuktu, has four stamps and multiple legible postmarks. The most minor corner abrasion but really a spectacular, brilliant addition to any collection. In fact, we don’t really want to sell it, and that’s partly why it is so expensive. But if you really want it, here it is. Grade: 1
-
Greetings from Holland, multiple views
All that’s missing are the tulips. The card was mailed in 2012 with a large stamp, but there’s no postmark. Orange postal bar coding. Grade: 4

Card mailed in 1990 in Malaysia. On front, it has a poem in Malay. On reverse, it has a stamp and partial postmark affixed over some pre-printed message selections. It also has orange postal bar code on bottom, and pencilled indication of original retail price. It’s a busy card. Grade: 3
-
Greetings from Bangkok, Wat Phra Keo (Thailand)
Westerners find it both amusing and sometimes inconvenient that the Thai language cannot be transliterated exactly into “western” alphabets. This unused card is a perfect example. Yes, it’s the Temple of the Emerald Buddha — no problem there. But on the front it’s spelled as “Wat Phra Keo” and on the reverse it’s “Wat Phra Keaw”. Just a little oddity on a classic Bangkok postcard. Grade: 1
-

North Platte, Greetings from Fort Cody Trading Post (Nebraska, USA)
This massive souvenir shop is still there, thriving, and gets a slew of positive reviews. Its own site says: “Fort Cody Trading Post has been a landmark on the Nebraska prairie since 1963! Visitors that came as children are now bringing their own kids or grand kids to savor that sweet touch of ‘Roadside Americana’ that is so quickly disappearing in the U.S.A. A stop at Fort Cody is to many a step back into a more simple and gentle time. To others, it is a brand new adventure to explore and enjoy!” (If we were there, we would buy postcards for sure.) As for this card, it’s Plastichrome P52917, older — but at least after 1963 — and unused. Grade: 1
-
Kandy (Ceylon)
Despite two overlapping postmarks, it’s hard to say when this old postcard was mailed — early in the 20th century, we think. As many senders did in those days, they wrapped the stamp over to the front. It might not be obvious in the small scan, but there’s a “Christmas Greetings” imprint on the upper left. Grade: 1
-
