-

GREETINGS — From “The Amish Country” (USA)
The Dexter Press card 21018-B does not specify Pennsylvania apart from having been published there, and mailed from there — so we know. What we don’t know, and will never know, is whether these women gave permission for their photo to be used, and whether or not the overall darkness to obscure their faces was deliberate. We’re thinking: maybe to the first question, and yes to the second. Dexter Press would have had better quality control. Mailed many years ago, with abraded stamp and obscured postmark. Grade: 3

Excellent example of an unused older E.C. Kropp generic card (Wild Flowers of the West, 18580N, or C-1002), this one describing Bear Grass as growing “in great abundance in Western Montana and Northern Idaho,” yet oddly, Newcastle (Wyoming) chose this design to represent itself. Go figure. Grade: 1
