Unused card of this Best Western property. Grade: 1
-

Unused card S-27164L2 of this Best Western Motel. Grade: 1
-
Sacramento, The Beauty Rest Motel (California)
Gone but not forgotten, on an unused ShiniColor postcard SK7166. Well, unused except that someone–possibly from the motel itself–inked changes in the number of units and the phone number. Grade: 3
-
Sentry Hiway House, Flagstaff (Arizona, USA)
“We Guard Your Comfort.” Wikipedia has a short but interesting entry about this chain, which went under sometime after 1970. Unused card. Grade: 2
-
Park Villa Motel, Sacramento (California)
Google is extraordinarily confusing as to whether this motel is still there or not. Probably not. The postcard, unused but for someone’s written change of the phone number, suggests it was just down the road from the Beauty Rest. Grade: 3
-
Ocean Echo Motel, Santa Cruz (California)
This old, unused card has some quirks to it. Original printing lacked a phone number, so the proprietor wisely made a rubber stamp and put this information (unwisely) in the middle of the message space, along with her name. And if you can look closely at the photo, we really doubt those two signs were ever on the property. Anyway, Grade: 1
-
Estes Park, Baldpate Inn, Keystone Fireplace (Colorado, USA)
Unused card, heavily aged, significantly creased vertically (though somehow this doesn’t show up much from the front), and someone has written “July 1951” on the back. That seems to be a collection of keys hanging from the ceiling. Grade: 4
-
Fremont Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas (Nevada)
Unused Plastichrome card P20675, calling this “Nevada’s tallest and finest hotel,” but when it opened in 1956 it was also the tallest building in the state–and while no longer the tallest, it’s still there, a real survivor. Grade: 1
-
El Portal Hotel, Raton (New Mexico)
Mailed in 1956, with 2-cent stamp and full postmark, this card is especially nostalgic in view of what happened to the El Portal Hotel. The term “star-crossed” really applies, as it was the victim of fires, the final one in 2012 that destroyed the last bits of it. Grade: 2
-
El Hacienda Motel, Tulsa (Oklahoma, USA)
The motel is long gone but this circa-1960s unused card lives on. Dexter Press 58648, quite heavily aged and handled. Grade: 4
-
Riverside Courts, Canadian (Texas, USA)
Mailed in 1953 with two one-cent stamps and readable postmark. Small smudge in address area. Grade: 3
-
English Lakes, The Keswick Hotel (England)
Now called The Keswick Country House Hotel, it’s still there, and after reading the TripAdvisor reviews, we really would like to stay there! Sounds nice, and so is the unused card. Grade: 1
-
Crosby Lodge, Sutcliffe (Nevada, USA)
Unused, noticeably aging card, 5-3/8″ x 7″, showing the Lodge, Pyramid Lake, and the Crosby Saloon. Grade: 3

John Ascuaga’s Nugget Hotel & Casino, Sparks (Nevada)
Between the time we got this unused card 0171 from the “Reno Series” and the day we’re entering it into the website, the property was sold. News reports say the new owners plan to maintain and improve the facility. Time will tell. Grade: 1
-
Siena Hotel Spa Casino, Reno (Nevada)
Unused card. Grade: 2
-
Las Vegas, Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall (Nevada)

Unused “Vegas Series” card 0785. Grade: 1
-
Las Vegas, Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino (Nevada)
Unused “Vegas Series” card 0746. Grade: 1
-
Stardust Resort & Casino (Las Vegas), and Western Pacific Airlines
Two sad business stories in one card (actually we have two of the unused cards). Western Pacific Airlines was famous for painting their jets in various logos, but the airline went bankrupt in 1998. As for the Stardust, it was demolished in March 2007. These two cards are notably aging, but at least they exist, unlike their namesakes. Grades: 2
-
Excalibur Hotel/Casino, Las Vegas (Nevada)
Unused “Vegas Series” card 0106, very heavily aged on the reverse. Grade: 3
-
Flamingo, Laughlin (Nevada)
Unused card from the “Laughlin Series.” Aging. Grade: 2
-
The Silver Queen Hotel, Wedding Chapel and Casino, Virginia City (Nevada)
Quoting the caption, “The Silver Queen’s dress contains 3,261 silver dollars, a large percentage of them undoubtedly contain silver that was mined thousands of feet beneath the building.” There’s more. Unused “Virginia City Series” card 0039. Grade: 1
-
Lake Tahoe, Cal-Neva Resort Spa & Casino (USA)
Famous old property on an unused card. Grade: 1
-
Lake of Bays (Ontario), Bigwin Inn
This was apparently quite the place in the 1920s-30s until one source calling it “a number of years of mismanagement and neglect” caused it to be abandoned in 1970. But … can’t keep a good resort down! It’s back, better than ever. We hope a Google search will lead to this card and that someone there will grab it as a souvenir. Mailed in 1940, with stamp and partial postmark, by someone who was liking the visit. Grade: 2
-
Luchon, Hotel Continental (France)
With a quick Google, we were not able to determine whether this hotel is still there or not. Probably not. But we have the postcard, and therefore so can you. Unused. Grade: 1
-
Fribourg, Cathedrale et Hotel de Ville (Switzerland)
Looking for a Fribourg postcard? In 1932, this one went out with a stamp and clear postmark. Grade: 2
-
Chexbres, Hotel-Pension Cecil (Switzerland)
Mailed in 1929, with stamp and postmark. Grade: 2
-
Milano, Majestic Hotel Diana (Italy)
Unused card. Some edge abrasions. Grade: 2
-
Kakiat Lodge, The Dutch Kitchen, Rockland (New York)
The Lodge is long gone; the postcard lives on, not postally used but with a message taking up most of the reverse. The writer enjoyed his stay, at least. Grade: 4
-
Schmallenberg, Gasthof zum Grubental (Germany)
Mailed in 1916, a heavily handled card with stamp and postmark. Grade: 3
-
Hotel Caleta, Acapulco (Mexico)
A nice enough card, rounded corners, good condition. With a twist: mailed from Acapulco to Illinois, with Mexican stamp and partial postmark, and on top of all of that, for no explained reason, is a full 1966 postmark of St. Louis, Missouri. We don’t downgrade the card because of this. The hotel seems still to be there. Grade: 1
-
Las Vegas, Dell Webb’s Mint Hotel-Casino (Nevada)
The casino/hotel lasted in one form or another from 1957 – 1988 and was one of the most famous casino complexes in Las Vegas. Unused card. Grade: 1
-
Seoul Palace Hotel (Seoul, S. Korea)
A creased card, mailed in 2013 with a dedicated postage meter label that makes it slightly more unusual. Grade: 3
-
Hotel Del Coronado, Crown Room (California)
Unused, aging, unattributed card possibly from the hotel. Grade: 2
-
Denver, Brown Palace, Metropole and Savoy Hotels (Colorado)
Call this three-for one on an undivided back card mailed in 1906 with stamp and postmarks from sending and receiving stations. Grade: 2
