A disjointed and hard-to-read message that probably made perfect sense to both sender and recipient, but not to us. Moreover, the card (mailed in 1915, one stamp) was forwarded and has two postmarks, one of which is not from the sending or the receiving location. A mystery for the ages. Grade: 4

Unused card with artwork by Mabel T. Burr. In light of the recent (as we type this) damage from Hurricane Sandy, the caption on this older card is prophetic: “Complete washouts of the beach in the past have brought the waves up to the very foundations of the building.” The lighthouse itself dates from 1896 and endured only minor damage during Sandy. -
Howard Memorial Library, New Orleans (USA)
Some vintage postcards are old and stained and just look tired. This one is old and stained and is full of character, like old battle scars.
