-
Ida Lewis Lighthouse, Newport (Rhode Island)
We wanted to know more about a lighthouse named after a person, so we went to Wikipedia to see the story. Beginning as the Lime Rock Lighthouse, this building served its purpose in one form or another from 1854-1963 and is now the clubhouse of the Ida Lewis Yacht Club. There was more than one Ida, and they both did their work well. Unused, undivided back card No. 957 from Hugh C. Leighton Co. The scan won’t show, but the card was made with some glitter along the shoreline and pier structures. Grade: 3

Coastal Sunset
The card does not identify the location or identity of the lighthouse, but there it is. As for the card, it was made in Ireland (a clue?) and mailed to the USA in 1966 but as it was sent through US military facilities, it bears an 8-cent USA stamp and partial postmark. Grade: 3
-

Unused undivided back card 7529 from The Metropolitan News Co. Aged and corner-abraded. Grade: 3
-
The Lighthouse, Atlantic City (New Jersey, USA)
This card just calls it “The Lighthouse,” though at some point the official name had become “Absecon Lighthouse,” with construction starting in 1854 and deactivation for actual use in 1933. The card was mailed in 1909 with stamp and clear Atlantic City postmark. Normal, minor marks and abrasions for a mailed card of this age. Grade: 2
-
Old Windmill, Prescott (Ontario)
This is a very old “local” B&W card of what is now called “Battle of the Windmills Historic Site”. We knew nothing of the background, so we looked it up and were interested to see that 300 Americans invaded Canada in 1838 (the card says 1837) with the idea that Canadians would rather be Americans, and when the Americans lost this battle, many were sent off to Australia. We suspect there’s more to the story, but the card is here waiting for you. And by the way, it is not a mistake that we are placing this in our “Lighthouse” category. For that, a good search engine will help. Grade: 1
-
New Taipei City, Fuguei Cape Lighthouse (Taiwan)

Boston Harbor, Bug Light
Careful, please! We have several different old Bug Light postcards, and they can all seem the same, but they’re not. For this particular card (which lacks the auxiliary structure off to the right, if you compare with 34000391, for example) we have three copies. The scan you see was published by New England News Company (#5215) and mailed from Boston in 1908 with stamp and full postmark (Grade: 2, $6). Another with the same photo and card number was mailed in 1910, also with stamp and postmark but with more ink transfer on the front (Grade: 3, $4). The third was mailed in 1911, again the same photo but yet another print run, less ink on the front, mailed in 1911 with stamp, postmark, and very detailed message (Grade: 3, $4).
