-
Period of Anti-US Joint Struggle (set of 2) (DPR Korea)
The two cards in this unused set have bilingual Korean/English captions (“Paektusan rifles would not forgive!” and “A merciless blow to sworn enemy for hundreds of years!” respectively), and very large and colourful pre-printed postage on the reverses. Grade: 1
-

Unused 4″ x 8-1/4″ card. Grade: 1
-
Yenan (set of 12) – cover (PR China)
Jonesing for Yenan postcards? This is an unused set of 12 from 1971, and as the text shows, the focus is on early days of Chairman Mao, with military overtones. See entry 20307873B for sample cards. The cover is badly abraded but the cards are fine. Grade: 2
-
Yenan (set of 12) – sample cards (PR China)
See entry 34200266A for the general description. Here’s a sample of four of the 12 cards in the set. Because of the abraded cover, Grade: 2
-
Jiangxi, Lu Shan (set of 10) – cover (PR China)
Mount Lu or Lushan, also known as Kuanglu in ancient times, is situated in the northern part of Jiangxi province in southeastern China, and is one of the most renowned mountains in the country. (Thanks to Wikipedia for this.) We offer a set of ten unused glossy cards from 1972, on a variety of themes associated with the mountain and surrounding area. See also entry 34200267B. The cover is somewhat abraded; the cards are in good condition. Grade overall: 2

The 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Long March … (PR China)
We ask you to look back to our entry #20307825 (for PR China) and the few that follow, showing a 2015 series of unused cards–blank on the reverse–commemorating specific anniversaries, events, or notable dates. Each card had pre-printed postage on the front. So now we have a similar series from 2016, each with an individual reference number as well as the series number, which in this case is JP 215. Unused. Grade: 1
-
Once a Marine … (USA)
Unused. Grade: 1
-
East New Britain Province, old japanese world war II submarine base (Papua New Guinea)
Official card from Post PNG. This interesting and poignant area is littered with caves and tunnels as reminders of the conflict. One card is unused (Grade: 1, $6) and the other has a large stamp with full Kokopo postmark from 2017 but no other handwriting. (Grade: 1, $12).
-
Rabaul, WWII Japanese Barge Tunnel (Papua New Guinea)
As of this writing, the scene pictured on this card is not overly commercialised or developed — but that may change before too long. Unused card from Post PNG, with this in the stamp area: “Domestic Postage Paid Papua New Guinea – Additional Postage required if sending overseas”. We’re also guessing there is not a lot of domestic postcard traffic in PNG. Grade: 1
-
Alpes-Maritimes – Vue sur Sospel et le Fort du Barbonnet (France)
Between the postmarks and the message, we think this card was mailed in 1914. Stamp is still there, multiple postmarks, but the view may have changed. Grade: 3
-
Toulon – Marine de Guerre (France)
Stamp is here, and postmark that reluctantly reveals the year as “19_9”. Guessing 1939, but … Multiple views of different ships in the military fleet, including Courset (Cuirasse), Algerie (Croiseur), Surcouf (Sous Marin), and Bearn (Porte Avions). Instructive. Grade: 3
-
Contra-Torpilleur “Tigre” (France)
Mailed in 1941. One very clear–and another less distinct–postmark are there, but no stamp. Instead, a round “chop” indicating a stamp was not necessary as the card was posted by a soldier. Grade: 3
-
Marine Militaire Francaise – “Belier” Torpilleur d’Escadre (France)
Written by a soldier to a soldier in 1914, here’s an iconic wartime postcard with multiple 1914 postmarks but no need for a stamp (as an imprint on the reverse shows). Entirely apart from the historical value of the postcard, we enjoyed seeing that the name of the recipient was Monsieur Pierre Fromage. Yes, we know it’s not a unique name but we enjoyed seeing it anyway. Grade: 3
-
Newport, US Naval Training Station, War College and Administration Building (Rhode Island, USA)
Unused, Berger Bros. linen card 62467. Grade: 1
-
Surabaya, MONKASEL (Indonesia)
An unused card for many categories, reflecting Indonesians’ fondness for calling things and places by acronyms. Any search engine will tell you the odd story of MOnumen KApal SELam. Grade: 1
-
Okinawa, Cave of Former Japanese Navy Headquarters (Japan)
Continuing a series of unused cards, captioned mostly in Japanese and Chinese, but with the key identification also in English (or we should say western letters). Grade: 1
-
Okinawa, Reimeinoto (Japan)
From a series of unused cards, captioned (usually) briefly in Chinese, then Japanese, then more of an often-colourful and enjoyable English. Grade: 1
-
Okinawa, Kenjinoto (Japan)
From a series of unused cards, captioned (usually) briefly in Chinese, then Japanese, then more of an often-colourful and enjoyable English. For this card, not enjoyable but descriptive: “Dedicated to the teachers and school boys of Okinawa Normal School who battled with Japanese Forces until death in the War.” Grade: 1
-
Gulfport, Entrance to U.S. Veterans Hospital (Mississippi, USA)
Unused E.C. Kropp card 8851 of “one of the most beautiful veteran’s homes in the country”. Grade: 1
-
Martinsburg, Newton D. Baker Veterans’ Administration Hospital Center (West Virginia, USA)
Mailed in 1948 by a patient who clearly wanted to go home, this card has its stamp and postmark, and an extra small rubber-stamp indicating that the recipient answered it. Some postmark ink transfer on the front. What makes this postcard more distinctive, it seems like the original caption was along the top edge but something went wrong so the producer overprinted that black line and put a new caption at the bottom. Anyway … Grade: 3
-
Gulfport, Confederate Monument, Harrison County Courthouse (Mississippi, USA)
Maybe it’s just because we are so far away, but Mississippi postcards have been harder for us to source. As for this unused E.C. Kropp entry 12581N, after a quick Google search, and as of August 2017, the statue has survived America’s national purge of Confederate symbols. No idea right now what happened after that. Grade: 1
-
Yuma, Quartermaster Depot (Arizona, USA)
Part of the military outpost of Fort Yuma in the late 1800s, on this unused card. Grade: 1
-
Natchez, Ante-Bellum Mansion on Site of Fort Rosalie – Gen. Grant’s Headquarters (Mississippi, USA)

-
Providence, Rhode Island (USA) – multiple views
We’re thinking if you live in, or come from, Providence, you might want this. Not postally used, it has a message totally covering the reverse, from very long ago. The scenes are all identified, and may be too small to make out in the scan, so we will identify them for you: City Hall and Soldiers Monument; State Capitol; New Armory; Brown University; Central Fire Station; New Post Office; State Normal School; St. Francis Xaviers Convent; Westminster St.; Roger Williams Park; and St. Peter’s and Paul’s Cathedral. That’s a lot for one postcard. Grade: 4
-

Unused Mike Roberts card CL-RR.#130 (SC18582) whose caption details favourable public reaction to President Reagan’s assumption of responsibility for this bombing. Grade: 1

Often heard as Brooke Army Medical Center, on this unused, slightly aging Dexter Press postcard 45621 (DB-196). Grade: 1
-
Fort Wellington, Prescott (Ontario, Canada)
This is the 1838 blockhouse at the Fort Wellington National Historic Site. So far, so good. The card was mailed in 2019, and has orange postal barcoding on the reverse, but what makes the card really distinctive are the three (uncancelled) different bear stamps. Grade: 1
-
Tobacco Counter, Post Exchange, Army Air Base, Salt Lake City (Utah, USA)
Unused E.C. Kropp card 13062N. Grade: 1
-
Natchez Trace Parkway, Brices Cross Roads (Mississippi, USA)

-
7th CISM Military World Games, Wuhan 2019 (Maximum Cards) (set of 4)
These four (unused) cards, issued in October 2019, come in a cardboard cover with holographic sticker. We cannot help but observe that organizers must have breathed a sigh of relief (so to speak) that the Games ended when they did, despite controversies. Grade: 1
-
Destination Argonne Ardennaise (France)
From the Vouziers Tourism Office, a scene from the Circuit of Sergeant York (Chatel-Chehery), mailed in 2019 with stamp and postmark. Grade: 1
-
National Military Park, Old Warren County Courthouse, Vicksburg (Mississippi, USA)
Unused old postcard of a building completed in 1861. Grade: 1
-
Fort Lincoln State Park (North Dakota, USA)
If we assume this structure is the same as the one on our entry 10135005, can you spot the main difference? Unused card of this U.S. Army post used by Gen. George Custer. Grade: 1
-
Postcards from Romania by Eugen Mihai (set of 10)
The ten glossy, unused cards in this set produced by Romanian military photographer Eugen Mihai are all shown on its paper cover. Each postcard has a complete and informative bilingual (English/Romanian) caption and represents one or another of a variety of scenes around the country — including a fortress, IAR 99 Standard military jet trainers, TR-85 M1 battle tank, Bucharest’s Palace of Parliament, Castelui Peles (Sinaia), the training ship “Mircea”, night view from Bucharest’s North Railway Station, Horezu Monastery, The Gate of the Kiss, and Hunyadi Castle. This great set came to us via our friend Tatiana, and — given the special circumstances of the cards’ production — if you read this and want to order directly from Mr. Mihai, we’ll tell you how to do that. Or, of course, this set from us. Grade: 1
