Mt. Hood, Timberline Lodge (Oregon, USA)
If you’re familiar with Stanley Kubrick’s film “The Shining”, you might recognize this hotel’s exterior shots. The card, unfortunately, was not handled with any more love than the characters in the film. Mailed in 2024, with five mostly old stamps (one is abraded), postmark, and sender’s and recipient’s address labels stuck on. Grade: 5
-
Kirovsk, Khibiny Mountains (Russia)
Mailed in 2024 with two different stamps and postmark. Grade: 1
-
La Pas (sic), Panoramic view of Illimani (Bolivia)
Another example where retouching an original photo somehow makes the whole area look radioactive, but even so, a great earlier view of La Paz, now a very large city. The card was mailed using a postage meter in 1967. Grade: 1
-
Dolomites (Italy)
Mailed some years ago, with two stamps and a faint postmark, the card is captioned in Italian and German. We’ll provide the Italian identification: “Ortisei m. 1236 – Val Gardena – Dolomiti con il Gruppo del Sassomungo m. 3181.” That gets you started. Grade: 1

Shangri-La, Meili and Dagon (Set of 2) (PR China)
From China Post, issued in 2016, these two unused 5-7/8″ square cards with pre-printed 80 fen postage. The set is held together by a small opaque sleeve (appears in the lower scan) and shows Goddess Peak of the Meili Snow Mountains, and Dagon (Shuanglong) Bridge. Grade: 1
-
Lijiang (Set of 30+) (Yunnan, PR China)
This is an unopened set, still in the original Cello-wrap. We assume the photos on the cardboard cover (our scan) represent the main idea of the cards. The set includes 30 cards, 30 attached and smaller “share cards”, and probably 460 very tiny stickers like those in similar sets we’ve seen. Grade: 1
-
Li Jiang “Photography Postcard” (Set of 10) (Yunnan, PR China)
This set of 10 unused cards comes in a heavy paper cover, whose front panel we show in the scan. The ten cards fairly represent every major tourist or scenic attraction in the Lijiang area, and each card is extensively captioned in Chinese. And yes, there are mountains. Grade: 1
-
Recalling Memories – Tiger Leaping Gorge (Set of 16) (Yunnan, PR China)
We’re not going into detail about Tiger Leaping Gorge, but it is a bucket-list item for every visitor to Yunnan. If you like rushing rivers, you’ll love this. The scan shows you the front cover and one of 16 unused 4-3/4″ x 7-1/2″ cards in the set. Each card has Chinese text on the front, that may or may not somehow connect to the scene but does not specifically say much about it. We went. It’s impressive in its way. Grade: 1
-
Shangri-La (Set of 20) (Yunnan, PR China)
This a very heavy, very high quality set of 20 large (4″ x 8-1/4″) unused cards inside the cardboard cover shown in our scan. Honestly, they are spectacular. Issued by China Post in 2016, each card has pre-printed, coloured 80 fen postage and extensive captions on front and back. The scenes are identified, and include essentially everything of touristic interest in the Shangri-La district. You will find Dukezong, wolfsbane flowers, Haba Snow Mountain, Tiger Leaping Gorge, Songzanlin Temple, and many more. The ultimate Shangri-La souvenir. Grade: 1

Impression of Shangri-La (Set of 16) (Yunnan, PR China)
These are quite “busy” unused cards, front and back. You can see most of one of the 16 through the cut-out window in the cardboard cover shown in our scan. They have heavily serrated edges, and each card has extensive text. On the front, it identifies the scene — all around the Shangri-La area, including Meili. On the back, it’s a kind of dreamy, romantic ode. We’ve not tried the QR codes on the reverse! Grade: 1

Sichuan, Yading Nature Reserve – one lake (PR China)
Abridged from Wikipedia, “Nyidên (Tibetan: ཉི་བརྟེན་, or Yading (亚丁), is a nature reserve in Daocheng County. It is a mountain sanctuary and major Tibetan pilgrimage site comprising three peaks sanctified by the 5th Dalai Lama. The peaks are seen as emanations of the three boddhisatvas Chenrezig (Avalokiteśvara), Jampayang (Manjushri) and Chanadorje (Vajrapani), with Chenrezig being the highest peak at 6032 meters.” This unused card is uncaptioned but with a Tibetan logo on the reverse, which might be from a hotel. Grade: 1
