  • Joao Paulo II statue (Timor-Leste)

Two of these are available, sourced from Dili’s Central Post Office.  US$1 stamps (the currency of Timor-Leste) had already been placed by the post office staff, so we count these as a legitimate part of the cards.  There is a tourism embossment on the front of the card.  Unused.  Grades: 1

    Price: $12.00

    Joao Paulo II statue (Timor-Leste)
  • Cristo Rei (Timor-Leste)

An impressively large statue of Christ, donated and installed by Indonesia during their occupation of East Timor, it is one of the “must-do” things for any visitor to Dili.  A broad path of steps leads up past Stations of the Cross to a really magnificent viewpoint at the statue, for which you can get the idea clearly from this postcard.  Three of these are available, sourced from Dili’s Central Post Office.  US$1 stamps (the currency of Timor-Leste) had already been placed by the post office staff, so we count these as a legitimate part of the cards.  There is a tourism embossment on the front of the card.  Unused.  Grades: 1

  • Jakarta, Welcome statue in front of Grant (sic) Hyatt, a main hotel (Indonesia)

Two of these unused cards are available.  You sort of need to know Jakarta in order to appreciate the caption, the statue, the fountain, and for that matter also the location.  And of course they meant the “Grand Hyatt,” which really is a magnificent hotel.  Grades: 1

This is a puzzle for us.  As part of our routine research on cards, we went to the search engines but after many dead-ends on this one, we gave up.  Where is this now?  What is its real name?  Help!  The card:  B&W, Rotograph Co. D28050, unused, highly aged.  Grade: 2

    Code: 31700189

    Price: $1.00

    Chicago, Garfield Park, Amedea Monument
  • Ottawa, SODART, Louise Bourgeois sculpture MAMAN (Canada)

Everything about this is confusing, including the name of the museum, the location of the sculpture, and even which of this artist’s sculptures it is.  As best as we can determine, this is outside the National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa) despite what the caption says.  The card was mailed in 2012 with four different and very large Canadian stamps totalling C$1.84 in value, none of them cancelled.  Grade: 4

    Code: 31700190

    Price: $3.00

Ottawa, SODART, Louise Bourgeois sculpture MAMAN (Canada)
  • Barcelona, Gaudi dragon (Spain)

Mailed in 2012 with stamp and part of the postmark.  Our apologies for not doing all of the research about this; also, that it might be more of a sculpture than a statue.  Grade: 2

    Code: 31700191

    Price: $2.00

There’s quite a long (and old) story connected with this statue, but she’s Imperia, a prostitute.  For details, there’s always Wikipedia!  The card was mailed from Switzerland (not Germany) in 2012, with two different stamps, and postmark and A Priority label.  Grade: 3

  • Gold-Gilded Bronze Statues (PR China) (Maximum Cards) (set of six)

If you are even remotely interested in such icons, these unused maximum cards should be hard to resist.  It’s a set of six:  two are pictured in our scan.  All six are captioned in both Chinese and English, representing several dynasties:  Guanyin Bodhisattva (Five Dynasties), Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva (Song Dynasty), Sakyamuni (Ming Dynasty), Amitayus Buddha (Ming), Samantabhadra (Ming), and Manjusri Bodhisattva (Ming).  Eight sets are available.  Grades: 1

Gold-Gilded Bronze Statues (PR China) (Maximum Cards) (set of six)
  • Gold and Bronze Buddha Statues Stamp Collection (with postcards) (China)

The title for this item is not wrong, but slightly misleading for our purposes because the book has six postcards in it.  It’s a book inside a cardboard cover (pictured here), overall measurements 8-3/8″ x 11-1/4″.  Like many of the other items we have listed, this is a book of 16 page facings (inside covers plus seven pages) including stamp sheets, stamped envelope covers, and postcards in Maximum Card style except that none of these items have postmarks.  See 31700208B for one of the pages with a postcard.  Grade: 1

    Code: 31700208A

    Price: $74.00

Gold and Bronze Buddha Statues Stamp Collection (with postcards) (China)

    Code: 31700209

    Price: $2.00

    Monument to V.I. Lenin (Belarus)
  • Bremen, Hansestadt (Germany)

This card was mailed in 2013 with two stamps, partial postmark, Priority label, and orange postal barcoding.  The extensive caption is entirely in German and explains everything, but the writer kindly did that in English also.  These are the town musicians of Bremen!  Grade: 2

    Code: 31700210

    Price: $2.00

    Bremen, Hansestadt (Germany)

    Price: $5.00

Halifax, Soldiers Monument, Province Buildings Square (Canada)
  • Chinese Stone Statue (Maximum Cards) (Thailand) (set)
