  • Hessle Road, Hull (England)

One of the great things about doing this website is the amount we learn about new places, new things–and old places and things, too.  In researching this card we now almost feel like we have visited Hull.  Old card from “The Waterfall Series of Real Photographs.  Publisher F.C.C., Hull” and mailed in 1907 with stamp and very full and complete postmark.  Grade: 2

  • Unknown European city

We don’t know what city this is, or even if it is the entire postcard.  On the heavily aged, unused reverse, it looks like this may be half of a panoramic card.  The front doesn’t suggest so.  Either way, the only caption is “No. 103, A.C. Dietsche, Detroit, Mich. and Frankfort, Germany,” with additional reference number 201490.  We’re guessing this is not Detroit.  Grade: 5

  • Helsinki, HKL 150 trolley (Finland)

One really needs help to deal with Finnish-language captions, but it’s a tramway.  (FYI, the caption reads:  HKL 150 (Duwag/BBC) 1967/1970 Senaatintori) and the picture itself seems to have been taken in 2005.  The card was mailed in 2012 with Priority label and one stamp, partial postmark, and name label affixed.  Grade: 3

  • Hong Kong International Airport viewed from Ngong Ping 360

It helps to know the context.  Ngong Ping 360 is a complex containing a large seated outdoor Buddha, and one way to reach it is by these cable cars that have an annoying habit of stopping mid-ride while they sort out technical problems.  But they get a spectacular airport view while they wait.  Unused card measures 5-1/8″ x 7″.  Grade: 1

    Code: 38900018

    Price: $3.00

  • Providence, Westminster St. (Rhode Island, USA)

Can’t quite read the postmark but it looks like this card might have been mailed in 1909.  If not 1909, then 1919.  Maybe you can tell from the card.  The stamp is there; the card has been heavily handled and has small tears and some creasing.  Grade: 4
